CS:GO Gets its Ancient Egyptian-Themed Weaponry in New Collection

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the biggest game on Steam and is regularly noted as one of the best competitive games in the eSports industry. The ancient Egyptian theme is among the most instantly recognizable and a huge selling point for would-be gamers. So, it only makes sense that the two come together for a new release before the long-awaited sequel launches for the multiplayer shooter.

Indeed, the Anubis Collection has arrived in CS:GO to plenty of fanfare and by following on from other Egyptian-themed infusions to the game. The collection centers on a new set of weapon finishes that suit the newest setting added to the Active Duty map pool. Available for purchase now, it’s a fine addition to the store, drawing from an infinitely popular theme.

Anubis rises in CS:GO

Created as a community-built Scrimmage mode map by Jd40, Jakuza, and Roald, it pivoted to a Competitive map shortly after its initial launch into the main game in 2020. Here, it was pivoted to a Competitive map with a Bomb Defusal scenario. Gaining updates and upgrades over the years, on November 18, 2022, Anubis was added to the Active Duty set, making it only the second map made by community members to achieve such a feat.

Towards the end of April, some five months after joining Active Duty, Anubis now has some tie-in weapon finishes. The new collection is all about its ancient Egyptian vibes, with dazzling blues and greens atop sandy base tones. Best of all, you don’t need a key to get to the Anubis Collection skins, merely $1.99 to buy each package. The AK-47, FAMAS, M4A1-S, and even the Glock-18 all got new skins from this launch.  

It’s difficult to understate not only the draw of ancient Egyptian-themed skins, but the introduction of new skins this late in the game itself. The sequel is coming in a matter of months, but players are being encouraged to continue to buy aesthetics and engage with CS:GO. Some estimate the CS:GO skin economy to have a potential total market cap of over $1 billion.

Tapping into the popular theme

Naturally, players will start to feel a bit less of an attachment to more casual play in CS:GO with a sequel so close.
