CS Asia Championship 2023 kicks off today
The $500,000 tournament features three Chinese teams against five European rosters.
For a rare occasion, some of the best Counter-Strike teams in the world have taken the long trip to China to participate in the CS Asia Championships 2023. A $500,000 prize pool has attracted the likes of FaZe, MOUZ, ENCE, Astralis, and Ninjas in Pyjamas to compete with TYLOO, Lynn Vision, and Wings Up on home ground.
The eight teams are divided into two groups. Here a bo1 match decides who goes to the upper and lower finals of the group. The winner of the group qualifies directly to the semi-finals while no. 2 and 3 move on to the quarter-finals.
Team News:
Both Team Liquid and G2 were originally slated to be a part of the tournament. Team Liquid pulled out due to visa issues, while G2 never officially gave an explanation for their cancellation. Rumors about NiKo's proposed transfer to Team Falcons could have played a part in the decision from the star-studded roster. Ninjas in Pyjamas were invited instead of Liquid, while Wings Up took the last-minute call to replace G2 in the tournament.
Serbian rifler Vladan "VLDN" Radevic has been called in as a substitute for ENCE's Paweł "dycha" Dycha, who was unable to obtain a visa to enter China. ENCE is still heavily favored in their first match of the tournament against TYLOO.
