BLAST Premier Unveils Major Overhaul for 2025: Austin, Texas to host North American Major
BLAST Premier has announced a significant revamp of its tournament format for 2025 during the BLAST Premier Spring Final at Wembley Arena.
The updated format will feature increased broadcast hours, more events, and an expanded roster of participating teams. A major highlight is the return of a Counter-Strike Major to North America, with the BLAST.tv Major 2025 scheduled to take place in Austin, Texas, next June.
North America to Host 2025 BLAST.tv Major in Austin, Texas
The BLAST.tv Major 2025 will be hosted at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, marking the first North American Major in seven years. This move aligns with Valve's announcement last year to create an open Counter-Strike ecosystem starting in 2025.
The BLAST.tv Major will feature the best Counter-Strike teams from around the globe, all fighting for the legendary trophy and a piece of the $1.25 million prize pool in June 2025.
New Format: Standalone Tournaments and Expanded Seasons
From 2025, BLAST Premier will run six standalone tournaments annually, split into two seasons of three tournaments each. This structure aims to heighten the competitive experience by crowning a winner at each event. Andrew Haworth, VP of Ecosystems for BLAST, Valve, and Riot Games, emphasized that these changes are intended to engage both fans and players with more frequent and varied competitive opportunities.
Introduction of BLAST Bounty: A Dynamic Prize Pool System
The BLAST Bounty will introduce a new format featuring 32 teams, including the top 30 from the Valve Global Rankings and two wildcard entries selected by BLAST. The tournament will begin with Bo3 single elimination matches, with initial rounds online and later stages in a LAN setting at the BLAST Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. Teams will carry bounties based on their seeding, adding a strategic layer where 50% of a team’s bounty is up for grabs each round.
The BLAST Open: Opportunities for Underdogs
The BLAST Open will feature 16 teams, with 12 qualifying via the Valve Global Rankings and four through regional qualifiers. The tournament will start with a Bo3 double elimination format at the BLAST Studios in Copenhagen, leading to LAN finals in various global arenas. This format is designed to give underdog teams a chance to compete against the world's best.
BLAST Rivals: Elite Teams Compete for Top Honors
BLAST Rivals will see the top eight ranked teams in a Bo3 GSL format, followed by single elimination playoffs. This competition aims to determine the top team globally, culminating in a Bo5 grand final.
Commitment to a Sustainable Esports Ecosystem
BLAST Premier’s new format includes enhanced financial incentives for teams, with $6 million invested into competing teams as part of a sustainable ecosystem. This investment is intended to support the long-term future of Counter-Strike teams, ensuring the best and most in-form teams are rewarded and motivated to participate in BLAST Premier events.
Austin Welcomes Global Esports Community
Kirk Watson, Mayor of Austin, expressed excitement about hosting the BLAST.tv Major, noting Austin's reputation for major entertainment events. The city is set to welcome teams and fans from around the world, showcasing top-tier esports competition.
BLAST Premier’s 2025 season is poised to redefine the Counter-Strike competitive landscape with innovative formats and major events, promising an exciting year for both players and fans.
