Big teams disappoint in opening round of IEM Sydney
FaZe and Vitality now face each other in an early elimination match.
During the night between Sunday and Monday, the 2023 edition of IEM Sydney kicked off.
16 teams fight for the glory and the $100,000 in first prize at the event 'Down Under'. Among them are Team Vitality and FaZe, who did not get a good start to their CS2 adventure with disappointing defeats in the opening round.
Team Vitality lost against Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov and Team BetBoom. The former Cloud9 in-game leader led his team to an overtime win 16-14 against Vitality. Noticeable was the lack of impact from Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, who was awfully quiet in the bo1 match.
FaZe also started their CS2 journey slowly. The star-studded roster lost to GamerLegion. It took two overtime series to get the job done for GamerLegion, who won 19-15 on Nuke. The two losses for Vitality and FaZe will have immediate consequences for one of them, as the two teams are now matched up against each other in the lower bracket today.
