Betting preview: Can a shaky Cloud9 beat Movistar Riders?
We have taken a look at today's games from BLAST Showdown.
The single-elimination tournament continues today with three matchups. We have taken a look at all of them and given our thoughts about the three fixtures. Times in CEST.
15.00: Cloud9 - Movistar Riders
It is with three defeats in a row to the likes of Eternal Fire, Team Liquid, and Complexity, that Cloud9 enters BLAST Premier Fall Showdown. In other words, it is a team in terrible shape, that is matched with the Spaniards from Movistar Riders, that did much better at the latest tournament, ESL Pro League. So why on earth is Cloud9 considered a big favorite before the match? We can't give a good answer to that, but instead, we can look at how the two teams match up in terms of the map pool. Cloud9 has had Nuke as their permanent ban, which is currently the best map in terms of victory percentage for Movistar Riders. The Spanish team veto out Mirage which leaves these maps as the most likely to be chosen.
Movistar Riders pick Ancient
Cloud9 pick Anubis
Vertigo or Inferno left as the decider
We believe that there is a good possibility of the match going to three maps. If you are bold you can also pick Movistar Riders as the winner of the match.
Over 2.5 maps = Odds 2.10*
Movistar Riders to win = Odds 3.75*
18.00: G2 - OG
It's hard to see OG making a difference here. The European roster is losing matches left, right, and center at the moment. Looking4Org, Fake Natty, and SAW are just some of the teams, that have beaten OG 2-0 lately. Looking at the map pool another big problem turns up for OG. They have no advantages going into the match. They have a win streak of four on Mirage which could be the straw that they can cling on to try and take the match to three maps. On G2's map pick, we expect the IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne winners to win by a big margin given the fact, that they will probably go for Ancient, where they have a seven map win streak with several big victories (16-4, 16-5) against Complexity and Virtus.pro, while OG has taken some big losses on the map (5-16, 2-16) against Fake Natty and SAW in the recent past.
G2 to win 2nd map with a -5.5 round handicap = Odds 1.72*
20.00: Liquid - Forsaken
This match could be a weird one. Liquid is playing with their coach Damian "daps" Steele as a stand-in. How will that impact the match? According to the bookmakers very little. Forsaken is another organization-less North American team that is brand new to the scene. Former Evil Geniuses captain Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz is in-game leading the NA team. But it is not the Canadian that sticks out from the bunch. The team has actually got some firepower in the likes of Josh "JBa" Barutt and Gage "Infinite" Green. Let's just be honest. We are not crazy about putting out money on a match, where there are so many uncertainties. But we definitely don't think that Team Liquid should be considered as big a favorite, as the bookies suggest.
Number of maps in the match above 2.5 = Odds 2.37*
