Astralis and FURIA suffer dissapointing defeats in opening round of ESL Pro League
The Danes and Brazilians could not live up to the expectations in Malta.
The opening round of ESL Pro League Season 18 Group A saw both Astralis and FURIA being dropped down to the lower bracket after unexpected losses.
Astralis lost all four halves against Ninjas in Pyjamas, who won 16-10, 16-11 on Ancient and Inferno. Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz was awfully quiet in the match, where he was kept down by Fredrik "REZ" Sterner, who took down the Dane 10 times in direct duels while only losing two.
Astralis will now face the Polish team ORKS, while NIP can look forward to a fight against Vitality.
On the other side of the bracket in Group A, FURIA took on Movistar Riders. Here it was Kaike 'KSCERATO' Cerato dominating the match. Unfortunately for him, he was almost alone in his fight against the Spanish team. Despite losing both maps, KSCERATO ended the match with a 1.72 HLTV rating and 62-34 in K-D. Movistar Riders won the match after two strong CT halves, where they only gave away six rounds in total to FURIA. The new Romanian rifler Adam "adamS" Marian delivered a fine LAN-debut for his new team with a 1.27 HLTV rating.
