Valve has made an exception for BC.Game’s case, meaning s1mple will almost certainly play at the Singapore Major.
Valve have updated their Major Supplemental Rulebook on GitHub, making an exception for BC.Game to qualify for the PGL Singapore Major, in spite of the rule they applied yesterday.
Their rule established that teams could not change their VRS region if they had been registered in a different VRS region within the three preceding months. This was the case of BC.Game, who switched from VRS Europe to VRS Asia by adding Tyson ‘asap’ Paterson to their roster in September, having three Asia-eligible players overnight.
Community pressure leads to Valve’s exception
However, BC.Game and their coach, Wiktor ‘TaZ’ Wojtas issued statements, asking to be given the chance to qualify, saying that the strength of their roster merited a chance to qualify. There was also a community backlash to Valve implementing the new rule immediately, after changes had already been made.
Valve have responded in kind, making an exception strictly for BC.Game in the rule book, meaning that Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev will most likely be attending the Major after seeming like a lost cause yesterday.
BC.Game was not the only team that attempted these last-minute region shifts, with Sashi Esports and WW attempting the same, but these organizations have not been afforded exceptions at the time of writing.
