Two Big Event-winning leaders will face off today to decide who qualifies for the top 24 teams of the Major.
They both have taken a dive into the lower level of Counter-Strike since their high highs, and look to build their teams back up to contention.
Both of these players and leaders suffered dramatic drop-offs, and have since looked to redeem themselves in the Tier-2 space.
Boombl4’s BetBoom has failed to make a splash so far
Kirill ‘Boombl4’ (pronounced “boomich”) Mikhailov will look to lead his team of Russian talents against Peter ‘stanislaw’ Jarguz’s men, an international team hailing from North America.
Boombl4 and his teammates gave Natus Vincere their first ever Major trophy in 2021, but since then, hasn’t been much on the radar of the Majors. He was only able to make the top 8 in Copenhagen in 2024, but his Cloud9 team was outclassed by Team Vitality in the quarter-finals.
His BetBoom team is a promising squad of talents that has failed to meet expectations so far. They have failed to win any online tournaments, despite their strong start at the BLAST Bounty. Now, they find themselves with a 2-1 record, with a chance to make the top 24. Will this be the time Boombl4 makes it through?
Wildcard on the other end
On the other side, Stanislaw waits with a mixed team of European, American and South African of young talent and veterans, which has consistently been able to punch above their weight.
At the previous Major, Wildcard was able to eliminate Virtus.pro from contention, and made the top 16. Failing at this stage for Wildcard would be a step backwards for them.
Stanislaw had previously been on a contender to win the Major in 2019, at Starladder Berlin. Still the most decorated North American in-game leader besides Nick ‘nitr0’ Cannella, his ex-teammate, Stanislaw has kept Wildcard at a consistent level in LAN play.
Nitr0, coincidentally, is the leader of another 2-1 team, NRG, who will play today against OG. NRG and Wildcard could potentially face each other in Round 5, if they both lose their matches.
Stanislaw was the first leader to lead a North American team to an elite tournament win, taking OpTic Gaming ELEAGUE Season 2 by defeating Astralis with Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander in the final.
Despite admitting that his own individual form has been struggling, his team seems to perform at Majors, and has a chance to take another scalp from a Stage 1 favorite.
Which one of these IGLs will make it to Stage 2?
BetBoom and Wildcard will face each other today at 22:00 CEST at the BLAST Major Austin Stage 1.
