TheMongolZ has defeated G2 in 2-0 fashion to make the top 8 of the BLAST.tv Austin Major. They are the #5 team in the world according to the Valve Regional Standings, and have sealed their spot despite losing two matches in the group stage.

G2 Esports have been eliminated in 9th-11th place, and were able to take TheMongolZ to the limit on Dust2, despite having a stand-in AWPer.

G2 will have a new AWPer and coach after the end of the Major, with TaZ ending his stint as coach since joining in December 2023.

TheMongolZ take Ancient despite being outfragged

TheMongolZ took a comfortable victory on their pick of Ancient, despite HeavyGod’s top-fragging performance on the map.

Despite G2’s 6-6 initial half, their CT-side was not able to put a single round on the board.

TheMongolZ took the map on their T-side, with 910 shining on the AWP to secure the first map.

Senzu takes control of Dust2

On the second map of Dust2, G2 took an early lead but Senzu pulled his team to six rounds at the half with 21 kills.

In the second half, malbsMd managed a 1v4 retake to turn the map decidedly in favor of G2, getting to 11 rounds.

Senzu was crucial in getting TheMongolZ to reach map point first, by getting a 3k and winning a 1v1 clutch to get to 11.

However, G2 managed to reach overtime by getting a round after losing 6 in a row.

Overtime(s) galore

In the midst of the second overtime, HeavyGoD and huNter- pulled back a 2v5 to keep the map even.

Even so, TheMongolZ managed to get it to a third OT, where Techno and bLitz won a 2v3 to stay in the lead with 50 HP combined.

TheMongolZ continued to save map points to extend the map.

When it was 23-23, Senzu got an entry to give TheMongolZ the site, after which bLitz secured the round.

At match point, TheMongolZ had a 5v3 post-plant, but malbsMd came through to win the 1v2 clutch to go to OT #5.

In OT #5, bLitz was the star as he got a 4k running through middle with the AK-47, all headshots.

TheMongolZ carried the momentum forward to close out the map, despite an admirable 47 kills from HeavyGoD.
