Team Spirit secured the PGL Astana 2025 championship with a 3-1 victory over Astralis in a best-of-five grand final that featured dominant map control, standout individual performances, and clutch moments under pressure.

Team Spirit secured the PGL Astana 2025 championship with a 3-1 victory over Astralis in a best-of-five grand final that featured dominant map control, standout individual performances, and clutch moments under pressure. The Russian squad, led by the electrifying Danil “donk” Kryshkovets, lifted the trophy inside the packed Barys Arena after closing the series on Train in overtime. While the title solidifies Spirit’s status as a top contender, it also sets the stage for a highly anticipated clash with Team Vitality at the upcoming BLAST.tv Austin Major.

Spirit’s Commanding Series: donk Delivers, Astralis Resist

The series opened on Dust2, Spirit’s map pick, where they immediately set the tone. Their aggressive defaults and precise execution dismantled Astralis, who struggled to establish defensive footing. Donk led the way with multi-kill rounds and crisp entries, and sh1ro’s anchoring secured key bombsite retakes. Spirit closed the map 13-5, establishing early control of the final.

On Nuke, Astralis looked to respond on familiar ground, but Spirit maintained their composure in the face of mounting pressure. Astralis showed better structure and pacing, reaching double digits, but failed to convert crucial mid-to-late round opportunities. A pivotal 1v3 clutch from chopper at 11-10 stunned the Danes, and donk followed up with a spectacular 1v4 to end the map 13-10 in Spirit’s favor. The Russians now stood one map away from the championship.

With their tournament life on the line, Astralis finally found their footing on Mirage. The Danish side took control early and never looked back. Stavns’s map control, combined with Staehr’s opening impact, dismantled Spirit’s defensive setups. Spirit failed to build economy or regain mid control, resulting in a lopsided 13-5 win for Astralis that narrowed the series score to 2-1.

The final map, Train, was the most competitive of the series. Astralis took a 10-5 lead at the half after winning key forcebuys and finding consistent entries on the T side. However, Spirit rallied behind a pivotal half-buy win on the B site that turned the tide. Donk’s impact grew as the map progressed, and sh1ro delivered round-saving plays in the late stages. After a tense exchange of rounds forced overtime, donk sealed the match with a clinical 1v2 AWP clutch. Spirit completed the comeback to win 16-13, taking the series 3-1.

A Rising Power, but Vitality Remain the Team to Beat

Danil “donk” Kryshkovets was named MVP of the event following yet another dominant display. His mechanical consistency, ability to win clutches, and opening kill success were unmatched throughout the playoffs. This marks his second MVP of 2025, further cementing his rise as one of the most feared riflers in the game.

Spirit’s win in Astana highlights their rapid ascent in the CS2 landscape. With donk in form, sh1ro delivering elite consistency, and chopper providing stable leadership, the team has developed into one of the most complete rosters on the circuit. Magixx and zont1x offered key support across all four maps, helping Spirit remain resilient when pressured.

Astralis, though falling short in the final, can take pride in their performance. Their road to the grand final included disciplined play, strong in-game leadership from Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen, and breakout moments from stavn and Staehr. Their map win on Mirage and competitiveness on Train suggest this revitalized Astralis roster is capable of deeper runs in future events.

Despite this win, Spirit do not enter the BLAST.tv Austin Major as undisputed favorites. Team Vitality, the current world number one, continue to dominate the scene with five consecutive titles and an unmatched level of consistency. Spirit’s victory in Astana positions them as legitimate challengers, but the road to the Austin crown will run through Vitality’s fortress.
