Astralis have secured their first Big Event LAN final appearance since 2019, defeating Aurora 2-1 in the semi-finals of PGL Astana 2025. The long-awaited return to the top comes in the debut event of in-game leader Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen, marking a stunning resurgence for the Danish side after years of struggle.
Aurora struck first in the series with a 13-11 win on Mirage, punishing Astralis with a confident showing on the opener. But the Danes bounced back on Nuke despite a shaky start, overturning a 4-8 deficit with a flawless 9-0 CT side. Martin “stavn” Lund was instrumental in the comeback, putting up a 16-4 performance with 186 ADR to lead Astralis to a 13-8 win.
The decider, Train, was a gamble from Aurora in the veto, one that backfired badly. Hoping to catch Astralis off guard on a map they had not played with HooXi, the Turkish team instead walked into a well-prepared opponent. Astralis dominated from the start, with Nicolai “device” Reedtz opening the map with a pistol round ace and closing it with a commanding 2.13 rating as his team cruised to a 13-3 win.
Staehr Continues Dominant Playoff Form
Victor “Staehr” Staehr once again topped the server with a 1.42 rating across the series, continuing his breakout performance in the playoffs. His consistency, alongside big moments from stavn and device, has been the driving force behind Astralis’ deep run.
While HooXi hasn’t stood out on the scoreboard, his leadership has clearly revitalized this roster. Astralis are now just one win away from lifting their first Big Event trophy since the BLAST Pro Series Global Final in 2019.
Spirit Await After FURIA Upset
In the other semi-final, Spirit came back from a map down to beat FURIA 2-1. The Brazilians opened strong on Train with a 13-7 win, handing Spirit their first-ever loss on the map. But Spirit responded with victories on Nuke (13-9) and Mirage (13-7), powered by stellar performances from Danil “donk” Kryshkovets and Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov.
This sets up a highly anticipated best-of-five grand final between Astralis and Spirit, two teams peaking at the right time. Aurora and FURIA will meet in the third-place decider before heading to IEM Dallas.
