Richard Lewis: Astralis exploring sale as finances tighten

Veteran journalist Richard Lewis takes us behind the curtains of the dire situation in Astralis.

According to a new report from journalist Richard Lewis, Astralis is actively seeking a buyer or could face closure, supporting an earlier story by Dust2.dk.

Sources tell Lewis that the organization has been quietly exploring a sale since December 2024, with the process potentially accelerating after the upcoming BLAST Major in Austin.

One of the names reportedly showing interest is Jonas Gundersen, former COO of NiP and North.

Layoffs, shutdowns, and internal pressure

Internally, the situation is described as critical. Anonymous sources claim widespread layoffs have hit non-essential staff, particularly in content and marketing. Several side projects, including Astralis Talent and Astralis Women, have been shut down due to financial unsustainability.

“Astralis needs to die for Danish Counter-Strike to rise again,” one source told Lewis, pointing to what they view as years of mismanagement and lost identity.

Running on reserves

According to the report, Astralis has been running on the last funds from the sale of its LEC slot in Riot Games’ League of Legends circuit – a deal reportedly worth over 150 million DKK across 2023–2025.

There are no confirmed buyers yet, but Lewis notes that potential interest may come from private investors or Middle Eastern groups aiming to revive the brand.
