paiN Gaming beat Virtus.pro (VP) 2-1 to their best result ever at a Major, not long after adding Hispanics dgt and dav1deuS to their team of Brazilians. We will see paiN play in the playoff bracket starting on June 19th.
VP, on the other hand, have been eliminated despite starting 2-0 in this stage, going 0-3 in matches and 1-6 in maps since their successful opening day.
paiN take Mirage
paiN took an early advantage on their map pick of Mirage.
The teams traded rounds at the beginning, but paiN ran away with the half to make it 8-4.
A key round was biguzera’s, who helped them win a 3v5 by getting an entry on low time, and holding the post-plant.
The second half went like the first, with the teams trading rounds, with paiN coming out on top with a force-buy.
They snowballed the rest of the half, with VP only getting 2 rounds once paiN had gotten map point.
The standout was nqz, who got 20 kills over the course of the map.
Fame goes nuclear on Inferno
Virtus.pro took the pistol, but paiN was quick to reply, tying the game 3-3.
The South Americans looked to be gaining control of the match, but lost a crucial 5v2 round where FL4MUS picked up an ace.
The half ended 7-5 for VP with it all to play for.
Fame ended paiN’s chances of winning 2-0 by dominating the CT-side of Inferno, including a 3-man spraydown to stop paiN’s B attack.
It was straightforward for VP to close Inferno 13-6.
dav1deuS and dgt get the Brazilians to top 8
On the third map of Dust2, paiN took the map in spades as they got 11 rounds in the first half.
The nail in the coffin of VP was the 2v4 from paiN, where dav1deuS got a 3k spraydown to give paiN a 10-1 lead.
Despite a VP pistol and conversion, paiN got to map point with two clean rounds.
It got hairy as FL4MUS and FL1T showed up to give VP a streak of rounds to get them 1 away from overtime.
It was a timely 2k from nqz and an audacious push from biguzera in a 2v2 retake to secure playoffs for paiN.
