Liquid faces Spirit as BLAST Bounty Season 2 quarter-finals are set in Malta

The opening matchups for the offline stage of the BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals are now locked in. During the live draft in Malta, the four lower-seeded teams selected their opponents from the pool of high seeds. This process finalized the schedule for the upcoming quarter-finals.

Draft selections and reasoning

Having the first choice, paiN selected Astralis. Rodrigo “biguzera” Bittencourt highlighted that Astralis favors Ancient, a map the Brazilian squad actively avoids, making the veto process advantageous for paiN. Following this, FaZe opted to play against The MongolZ. The decision was influenced by the desire for an extra day of preparation and the potential to secure VRS points, given the close ranking between the two rosters.

With only MOUZ and tournament favorites Spirit remaining on the board, 3DMAX selected MOUZ. The decision was primarily driven by map pool preferences. As a result of these prior selections, Liquid was automatically paired with Spirit for the opening match of the offline stage. Despite undergoing recent roster adjustments, Liquid already eliminated both Vitality and G2 during the online stage to reach Malta.

Commenting on Liquid’s recent form, Spirit’s Boris “magixx” Vorobiev stated: “Yeah, I feel like they definitely earned some respect because they’ve beaten Vitality.”
