Legendary AK-47 skins that make the best gun in the game truly special

Welcome back to another deep dive into the virtual armory. When you drop into a match of CS2, your primary goal is securing rounds and clutching up for the team.

But let us be honest with ourselves for a second, shall we? Looking good while doing it is a massive part of the experience. The rifle we reach for most often is undeniably the best gun in the game. Because of its 1-tap potential and raw power, players naturally gravitate toward it.

If you are looking to turn heads on the server, you will want to look into picking up some legendary AK-47 skins. Over the years, these digital canvases have transformed from simple camouflage to status symbols worth 1000s of real-world dollars. We have seen the market shift, yet the desire to own the most legendary AK-47 skins remains a constant thread in our community. Mastering the recoil pattern of the best gun in the game feels infinitely more satisfying when you are holding a piece of history.

Today, we are looking at the exact items that define prestige. These are much more than your average colorful pixels on a screen. These are investments! Pieces of Counter-Strike history! Most importantly, they are the ultimate flex.

A quick look at the data

Before we break down each weapon finish individually, we should lay out the current market reality. If you opt to purchase any of these items, you will need to prepare your wallet for a significant hit. Here is where the prices stand as of today.

Case Hardened

This is where the concept of “tiers” originated in our community. When we talk about legendary AK-47 skins, the Case Hardened pattern 661, also known as the “Scar Pattern,” is the undisputed king. It features a nearly solid blue top with a small “scar” of gold near the rear sight. In January 2024, a StatTrak Factory New version was finally registered, and it remains a million-dollar item.

If you are looking to buy one, you need to understand that anything below a “Tier 1” Blue Gem will not command those astronomical prices. In CS2, the blue portions have a deep, metallic luster that reacts to sunlight, while the gold portions can look somewhat dull. Wear rating matters here because higher floats introduce black “rust” spots that can ruin a clean blue top. Most collectors will tell you that a Minimal Wear blue gem is often the sweet spot for visibility and price.

Fire Serpent

This finish is a relic from the 2013 Bravo Collection. What makes it one of the most legendary AK-47 skins is its connection to the early days of professional play. It was the skin used by almost every top-tier pro during the 1st few years of the game. The art itself is a hand-painted depiction of a green serpent, which many feel captures the “old school” vibe of the franchise.

The main factor affecting the price of the Fire Serpent is the cost of the Operation Bravo Case, which now sells for over $100 per container. Because you need to burn through so much money just for a chance to see one, the supply remains stagnant. When you are buying one, pay close attention to the “feet” of the serpent and the wood on the stock. Lower float versions keep the wood looking clean and polished, whereas high float versions look like they have been dragged through a gravel pit.

Wild Lotus

We consider this to be the most beautiful skin ever created for the best gun in the game. It was introduced in late 2019 as part of the St. Marc collection during Operation Shattered Web. Unlike case skins, you could only get this through a random drop while leveling up your operation pass. This means the supply is completely disconnected from case openings.

The Wild Lotus is 1 of those legendary AK-47 skins where the lighting in CS2 completely changed the game. The green base has a slight pearlescent quality now, and the orange flowers look almost 3D. If you opt to purchase this, you should know that it is a “brightness” skin. It does not get scratches as the float increases; instead, it simply gets darker and lose its shine. A Field-Tested version can look nearly as good as a Factory New one if you find a float value close to 0.15.

Gold Arabesque

This finish was a bold move by Valve. For years, the community had asked for a gold weapon, and the 2021 Dust 2 collection finally delivered it. It is 1 of the few legendary AK-47 skins that is entirely gold-plated. The reason it became legendary so quickly was its inclusion in the souvenir pool for the PGL Stockholm Major.

When you are looking at a Gold Arabesque, you are looking at how the new CS2 engine handles reflections. On maps like Mirage or Anubis, the gun glows. However, be careful with the “Souvenir” tag. A regular Gold Arabesque can be used in trade-up contracts, which keeps its value tied to the rest of the collection. A souvenir version cannot be traded up, making its value entirely dependent on the stickers and the prestige of the tournament it came from.

Hydroponic

Part of the Rising Sun collection, this skin has stayed relevant because of its unique aesthetic and its association with a specific subculture in the community. It features a bamboo forest design with white accents. It is 1 of the most legendary AK-47 skins because the Rising Sun collection is incredibly rare.

The wear on this skin is brutal. If you buy anything with a float higher than 0.04, you will start to see massive grey scratches on the white paint of the receiver. This makes Factory New versions with “low floats” (below 0.01) worth significantly more than the market average. It is a favorite for players who want a clean, minimalist setup that still screams “wealth.”

Vulcan

The Vulcan is the definition of a “pro player” skin. For a decade, it has been the go-to choice for anyone wanting a futuristic, high-tech look. It was 1 of the 1st finishes to move away from the “war-torn” look of early skins and embrace a clean, geometric style.

Vulcan, one of the more legendary AK-47 skins in the game

What makes it 1 of the most legendary AK-47 skins is how well it takes stickers. If you want to build a “craft,” the flat white and blue surfaces are perfect for 4 identical stickers. Unlike the Bloodsport, the Vulcan does scratch, and it scratches in very specific places. Look closely at the “butt” of the stock and the magazine. If those are clean, you have a winner. Prices have stayed consistent around $750 for a Factory New version because the Huntsman Case is still relatively easy to find compared to a Bravo Case.

Bloodsport

This skin is a love letter to Japanese street culture and racing aesthetics. It is 1 of the most legendary AK-47 skins because it managed to pack an incredible amount of detail into a single weapon. There are tiny warnings like “Open Boldly” and “Flash” scattered across the body. In fact, Bloodsport is the most affordable AK skin in CS2 out of all the legendary ones.

The best part about the Bloodsport is that it is “float capped” at 0.45. This means you will never find a truly “broken” looking Bloodsport. As the float increases, the red paint simply gets darker and more burgundy. Because of this, it is the best gun in the game for players on a budget who still want a legendary look. You can buy a Field-Tested version for a fraction of the cost, and it will still look fantastic in a CS2 match.

Inheritance

The Inheritance is the newest member of this elite club. It represents a shift in how skins are designed for the new engine. It uses a porcelain-style finish that actually has a “depth” to it, looking like a piece of fine china your grandmother might keep in a cabinet.

A preview of AK-47 Inheritance, the most legendary AK-47 skins in the game right now

It joined the ranks of legendary AK-47 skins almost overnight because of how it reacts to the CS2 lighting system. The gold filigree shines differently than the gold on the Arabesque, appearing more like a delicate inlay. If you are looking to pick one up, we recommend looking for a float below 0.10. Once you hit the higher end of Minimal Wear, the porcelain begins to “crack” and show grey underneath, which ruins the elegant look of the rifle.
