In a big interview with HLTV Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke has announced that he’s retiring from professional play with plans to become an agent. At his peak the Danish rifler was one of the best and most impactful players in the world.
Turbulent career
During his 10-year career, the Dane has experienced several turbulent periods. Many will remember k0nfig for his time with Astralis, where he ultimately severed ties with the organization after an altercation in Malta, during which he broke his ankle.
Several media outlets reported that the altercation involved k0nfig and a bar representative.
Beyond the Malta episode, k0nfig has an unfortunate history with broken bones. Before joining Astralis, while with Complexity, he reportedly slipped at an airport and broke his wrist, sidelining him for four to six weeks.
A new chapter as an agent
In his new HLTV interview, k0nfig says he is retiring to represent players, aiming to use a decade of hard lessons to protect the next generation. After a year away he concluded many of the worst moments were avoidable, and he wants to be a steady point of contact for younger talents.
“I don’t want to see anyone else go through what I’ve gone through because it breaks you.”
Also adding that he wants to “play a supportive role.” He describes being a pipeline for players on the rise, helping them prepare for big stages, camera crews, interviews, and the emotional swings that come with criticism and expectations.
He also says that while he still believes he could “dominate” with a week of practice, stepping away is the responsible choice, with his focus now on guiding others through the pressure and the business side of top tier Counter-Strike.
