G2’s peca on Budapest disappointment: “We are hungrier than this”

Manager Petar "peca" Marković tweeted a longer statement about G2's run at the Budapest Major.

G2 entered the StarLadder Budapest Major with real belief. The roster had lifted a trophy in London barely a month after its rebuild, and early Stage 3 wins against paiN and Passion UA suggested the project was trending upward. But the momentum collapsed quickly. G2 fell 0-2 to FURIA, 0-2 to The MongolZ and 1-2 to Falcons in the final 2-2 match, finishing 9 to 11th in Budapest.

Manager Petar “peca” Marković was honest about why the team failed to show its level. “We did not meet those expectations when it mattered the most, in Budapest,” he said. “Our 2-0 and 2-1 games against Furia and Mongolz were simply not us. That was not the real G2.”

A turbulent year, a new leader, and a rebuild in motion

G2’s 2025 season was shaped by some of the most dramatic changes in the organisation’s history. NiKo and m0NESY left for Falcons, HooXi and TaZ parted ways with the project, and the roster was rebuilt around HeavyGod, SunPayus and MATYS under new coach sAw.

One of the defining adjustments was Nemanja huNter- Kovač stepping into the in game leader role for the first time in his career, a shift that added even more complexity to the early months of the rebuild.

The London title proved the group had real potential, but in Budapest they struggled to bring that structure to the server. Peca noted that their final match was the first time the identity they had worked on appeared. “The 2-2 game against Falcons finally looked like us again. We started strong, we fought for every round.” Even then, the story turned against them. “Our former baby goat picked up the big green and shut the door on our run.”

Throughout the message, peca stressed accountability. “We are not satisfied with this result. We are hungrier than this.” He framed the setback as part of the team’s development. “This is sports, and this is where character is built.”

Looking ahead, peca reaffirmed that the rebuild remains on course. “What we can promise is that 2026 will be a year of growth, hard work and steady progress.” His final words set G2’s offseason tone. “Now we rest. Then we rise. G2026 is on the way.”
