ZywOo and flameZ both started Cache 0-8 and Vitality fell 4-7 behind on their own map pick, then won it 13-10 to finish a 2-0 series in which jL took the first of five steps towards a Major sticker.
For nine rounds of Cache, ZywOo did not register a kill. flameZ had also started the map 0-8. It was the map Team Vitality had picked, one they had won seven of their previous eight times, and 9z led 6-2 on it.
Vitality still won it 13-10. flameZ finished Cache with 22 kills, 13 deaths and 100.2 ADR, almost all of it on the CT side after the break, and the 2-0 win over 9z gives the top seed a clean start at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 in their first series without apEX.

Ten rounds before the first kill
Cache was supposed to be ZywOo’s map, and Vitality went into the series with an 88% win rate on it over the previous three months. 9z took that away early. They won the pistol round, went 4-0 up and never let Vitality break their control of mid, which left the attack with little but direct hits on the sites, straight into 9z’s layered setups.
ZywOo’s first kill came in round 10, and it came as a triple that won a round 9z had set up perfectly. Vitality were still 4-7 down a round later and went into the half at 5-7, kept in touch by ropz, who repeatedly led them onto the B site and won the duels that opened it.
The CT side was a different map. Vitality won the second pistol round, and flameZ took over the middle of the map on the rounds that followed as Vitality levelled at 7-7 and went ahead. When HUASOPEEK won a one-against-three post-plant to tie the map at 9-9, a clutch that broke Vitality’s economy and handed 9z a 10-9 lead on the following round, flameZ answered with a triple from A main, alone against two players coming through the squeaky door, to level it again. jL’s double kill made it 11-10, and ZywOo’s triple against 9z’s pistols took Vitality to map point. ZywOo, who had been 0-8, ended Cache 15-14. Vitality won the last four rounds.
mezii in the middle seat
apEX is missing Bucharest for the birth of his child, and Vitality have not simply slotted jL into his chair. mezii, who has called for teams before, took over the in-game leading and sat in the centre of the five. On Mirage, Vitality moved flameZ into the aggressive spots towards connector that apEX usually takes and used jL as an anchor on the A site instead. On Cache, jL played apEX’s positions one for one. It was only the third official Cache of his career.
mezii was the best-rated Vitality player on Mirage, a map 9z picked, where Vitality started on the CT side and went into the break 8-4. 9z won the opening pistol but only three more rounds in that half, and when 9z won the second pistol and pulled back to 8-9, a ZywOo run through connector and into the CT spawn in round 18 killed the comeback before it could build. 9z never won more than three rounds in a row on the map, and jL closed it out with a Desert Eagle kill in the final round.
jL’s own numbers were modest. He finished with 25 kills, 27 deaths and the lowest ADR on Vitality’s side at 51.9, and on Cache he had 34.8. What matters more for him is the count. Under the roster rule in Valve’s Regional Standings, a player needs five of a team’s last ten matches to become part of the roster that receives a Major invitation, and as we explained before the event, five matches for jL in Bucharest would put his name on Vitality’s invite for PGL Major Singapore in place of apEX’s, sticker included. This was match one.
Too much depended on two players
9z had the better individual moments for long stretches. luchov finished with the highest ADR in the series at 89.1 and was one of the best players on the server on Mirage, and HUASOPEEK’s clutch was the play of the second map. dgt had 33 kills.
The problem was the fifth man. max ended the series with 15 kills and 32 deaths, and on Cache he went 3-17. The 9z captain has been the team’s second or third source of frags at his best, but his output has dropped over recent events, and on a day when 9z needed one more player to finish rounds, the rifle in his hands produced almost nothing.
It was also a series Vitality had reason to take seriously. 9z beat them 2-1 at the Cologne Major in June, and before Bucharest their coach BIT said the event mattered for his team because of the VRS invitations at stake for next year.
Still 16th, still in the hunt
The result changes little in Valve’s Regional Standings. Vitality gain a point and stay first; 9z drop three and remain 16th. In HLTV’s simulation before the series, 9z had a 54.7% chance of an invitation to PGL Cluj-Napoca 2027, projected to fall only to 51.6% with a loss, against 86% with a win.
On a day when Spirit, MOUZ and defending champions Aurora all lost their openers, Vitality were one of the few favourites who did not slip. They need two more series wins to reach the playoffs, and jL needs four more matches to change the name on the Major roster. 9z still have room for one more slip, but a second defeat would leave them a single series away from elimination.
