Astralis crash out, Vitality dominate, MongolZ rise: Day 2 at IEM Cologne 2025

While several top teams advanced, Astralis suffered a crushing early elimination.

The Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Cologne 2025 Counter-Strike 2 tournament continues in Germany, with the playoff stage set to be held at the LANXESS Arena in Cologne. On 27 July 2025 (Group-stage Day 2), six best-of-three series played out across Groups A and B. While several top teams advanced, Astralis suffered a crushing early elimination.

Astralis eliminated in brutal fashion

It was a short and painful stage 2 part of IEM Cologne 2025 for Astralis, who were knocked out in the Group A lower-bracket quarterfinal by FURIA in one of the fastest series of the day. The Brazilian squad overran the Danes 13–3 on Inferno and 13–4 on Dust II. Astralis showed little sign of resistance as KSCERATO and YEKINDAR led FURIA with clinical aim and map control.

Vitality dominate G2 to reach Group A final

Team Vitality swept G2 Esports with a 13–5 win on Inferno and a 13–10 win on Train. ZywOo and mezii combined for 65 kills, securing Vitality a spot in the group final.

The MongolZ stun Falcons with Senzu’s heroics

The MongolZ continued their surprise run by sweeping Team Falcons 13–9 on Dust II and Mirage. Senzu posted a 1.56 rating and 97.5 average damage per round, including a pivotal 1v4 clutch from bLitz.

3DMAX survive GamerLegion in a marathon

3DMAX staged a comeback after losing Overpass 13–6, winning Inferno 13–11 and a tense Dust II decider 22–20 in double overtime. Lucky and Maka were instrumental in the win, which eliminated GamerLegion.

MOUZ sweep Liquid to stay in the upper bracket

MOUZ defeated Team Liquid 13–7 on Inferno and 13–9 on Train. torzsi, Jimpphat, and xertioN all delivered impactful performances, with xertioN earning MVP honors.

Spirit’s sh1ro carries past HEROIC

Team Spirit beat HEROIC 2–0 in a high-level matchup. After edging Ancient 16–14 in overtime, Spirit closed Nuke 13–8. sh1ro starred with 60–30 K/D and a 1.55 rating.

What’s next

On 28 July, Vitality and The MongolZ face off for a direct semifinal berth. Lower-bracket elimination matches include FURIA vs Falcons and G2 vs 3DMAX. In Group B, MOUZ take on Natus Vincere, Spirit play Aurora, and elimination matches feature Liquid vs FaZe and NiP vs HEROIC.

With Astralis eliminated and underdogs continuing to rise, the race to the playoffs in Cologne is wide open – and the pressure is only building.
