Team Spirit lifted the Esports World Cup 2026 trophy following a 3-1 Grand Final victory against Turkish organization FUT Esports. While Myroslav “zont1x” Plakhotia has frequently faced community scrutiny during Spirit’s inconsistent stretches as the team’s lowest-rated player, the Ukrainian rifler delivered a strong performance in Paris, ending the final as the squad’s second-highest-rated member.
Speaking after the trophy lift, zont1x addressed his personal output, his responsibilities inside the server, and why efficiency takes priority over playing clean Counter-Strike.
Calling and communication over personal numbers
Addressing his individual form across the four maps, zont1x explained that personal statistics remain secondary to supporting the team’s structure through mid-round directives.
I think I work more and try to control communication, mid calls, and freeze time calls rather than having concerns about my individual performance,” zont1x said. “I do not have concerns about my individual performance because I use my energy and concentration for other things a lot of the time. When I feel like the team lacks communication, I talk more. When we lack mid calls, I try to mid call more.
Countering aggressive playstyles and managing fatigue
The Grand Final was Spirit’s first encounter against FUT. zont1x pointed out that the Turkish-owned organization presented specific challenges through their aggression, drawing parallels to squads like Legacy and B8.
A lot of those teams just play too aggressive because they are not typical tier-one teams,” zont1x said. “I am not saying they are bad. They are just different in style because they have not played tier one for too long.
The series remained competitive across the opening maps before Spirit closed the match out on Nuke. zont1x noted that playing an entire best-of-five series in a single day took a physical and mental toll on both sides, which ultimately shifted the momentum in Spirit’s favor.
We won a lot of clutches, but we did a lot of very dumb mistakes that we usually do not do,” zont1x explained. “It just happens when you play all the maps of a grand final in a single day. FUT were very tired and tilted after Ancient, and they did not really show up on Nuke. It was three close maps and then they were tired.
When asked whether playing high-level, structured Counter-Strike matters as much as winning, zont1x gave a straightforward assessment of competitive play.
You judge by results,” zont1x said. “No one really cares how you played. If you won eight championships in a row, who cares? We have not played our best CS today for sure. We could play better and we made mistakes, but overall, we won in the end.
The Major remains the ultimate benchmark
While the Esports World Cup adds another elite trophy to Spirit’s cabinet, zont1x made it clear that a Major title still holds a higher standing in his career.
It is impossible to compare,” zont1x said. “At the given moment, the Major was more important to me than this one.
