Will donk and Spirit destroy another team today in Cologne?

The opening phase of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 Stage 3 moves into its second round of play on Friday, sorting the 16 remaining teams into the 1-0 and 0-1 brackets. With the tournament utilizing best-of-three series across this entire stage, today’s results will establish the initial qualification and elimination matches for the weekend. The schedule features a mix of evenly matched tier-one contests and series with heavy favorites looking to secure a flawless start.

Balanced matchups define the early schedule

The early afternoon features two series where the competitive margins are expected to be thin. In the 1-0 bracket, FURIA faces MOUZ in a high-profile encounter. Based on recent tournament metrics, FURIA enters the series with a slight statistical advantage on paper, but MOUZ’s uptick in performances as of late can bring this match into all three maps.

In the 0-1 bracket, FUT and G2 meet in an elimination-avoidance match where neither side holds a clear advantage. Both rosters suffered defeats on the opening day of Stage 3. The loser of this series will drop to a 0-2 record, leaving them with no room for error for the remainder of the Swiss stage.

Heavyweights look to solidify flawless records

The evening section shifts toward the top contenders in the 1-0 pool, featuring two matchups with clear statistical favorites. Team Spirit faces Aurora, with Spirit heavily expected to control the series. Led by Danil “donk” Kryshkovets, Spirit has shown insane form in Cologne, battering all opponents, only losing 19 rounds on six maps. That is an outrageous statistic, and we can only imagine how they must feel right now in the Aurora camp, looking forward to the match.

Team Vitality enters the final match of the evening against 9z in an even more dominant position. As the highest-ranked lineup in the matchup, Vitality is expected to dictate the map veto and the pace of the server. For 9z, the series requires a major tactical deviation to disrupt Vitality’s standard setups.

Full round two schedule

The remaining matches across the day will help establish the mid-table hierarchy of Stage 3. In the 0-1 pool, Natus Vincere enters their series against Legacy as the clear favorite to recover from their opening round defeat. PARIVISION holds a marginal edge over Monte in a closely matched lower bracket series, while The MongolZ face B8. In the 1-0 bracket, Falcons and BetBoom will play to join the qualification matches.
