Less than three months ahead of the start of the tournament, EWC is reported to have change its location to Paris.
According to a report from Gamesbeat, The Esports World Cup (EWC) is set to take place in Paris, France this year due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
This is the first EWC that will take place outside of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the first edition of the CS2 tournament with the new 32-team format.
Pros and cons
According to the report, this swap is likely to have little impact on the value of the tournament for its operators, since most of the viewing fanbase is online. However, certain Saudi-based sponsors may be affected by the change.
The change may suppose logistical problems, as switching venues only two and a half months before a large tournament can be difficult. However, the choice of Paris is more convenient for the competing top teams, mostly based in Europe and the Americas.
