VALORANT Patch 12.05: Miks Joins the Protocol as Yoru and Clove Face Massive Nerfs

VALORANT patch 12.05 is officially live, and it’s a big one. Between the arrival of the new Croatian Controller, Miks, and a suite of balancing changes that target the game’s current “power picks,” the meta is about to shift significantly. Players will also notice a shorter-than-usual Act duration, lasting only 6 weeks (42 days), so the race to Radiant starts now.

Agent Balance: A Hard Reset for Yoru and Clove

The most discussed aspect of VALORANT patch 12.05 is the direct hit to Yoru and Clove’s dominance in ranked.

  • Yoru: His Gatecrash (teleport) beacon uptime has been halved from 30 seconds to 15 seconds. Additionally, he now only has one flash charge instead of two, forcing players to be far more calculated with their entries.
  • Clove: Their post-death impact has been neutralized. The duration of smokes used while dead is now only 6 seconds (down from 14). Their Meddle decay AoE has also been shrunk from 6m to 4m.
  • Skye: In a rare “buff,” Skye’s flash now has a regenerating cooldown again, though it is a long 60-second wait.
  • Sage: Received a visual update reflecting the lore; she now has crystal growths on her model, matching the “struggling healer” narrative seen in the Miks trailers.

HUD & UI Evolution: Assist Banners and Clarity

Riot has overhauled how information is delivered mid-round. VALORANT patch 12.05 introduces Assist Banners, which appear in the kill feed area to show exactly which ability contributed to a teammate’s kill. This icon is only visible to your team to maintain competitive integrity.

Visual Clarity Updates:

  • Buffs (like Combat Stim) now always appear on the left side of the HUD.
  • Debuffs (like Decay or Paranoia) now always appear on the right.

Map Rotation: Lotus and Fracture Return

With VALORANT patch 12.05, the map pool shifts to keep the tactical environment fresh. Abyss and Corode are heading to the bench to make room for:

  1. Fracture: Returns with no major geometry changes.
  2. Lotus: Returns with several tactical changes, most notably the A Lobby wall being thickened to remove a popular wallbang spot.

New Game Mode: Knockout

Replacing the “All Random One Site” and “Skirmish 2v2” modes is Knockout. This Team Deathmatch variant has a high-stakes twist: you don’t respawn automatically. Instead, you only come back to life once your teammates secure a kill. It rewards aggressive, trade-heavy gameplay and is a great way to warm up for the new Act.

FAQ: VALORANT Patch 12.05

Is the new agent Miks available in Competitive? Yes, following standard protocol, Miks is available to unlock and play immediately in all modes including Ranked.

What happened to my Yoru flashes? In VALORANT patch 12.05, Yoru’s flash charges were reduced from 2 to 1 to balance his high playmaking potential in solo queue.

Has the rank system changed? Riot adjusted the RR thresholds for Immortal 2, 3, and Radiant, though they are being vague about the specific numbers. You’ll likely see faster queue times due to behind-the-scenes matchmaking optimization.
