How the Apex map rotation system works

The Apex map rotation system is automated to provide the player a change of maps in different modes throughout the day. This keeps the game feeling fresh and prevents the meta from becoming too stale on a single piece of terrain. Depending on which mode you are queuing for, the timing of these shifts changes significantly:

  • Battle Royale (Public Matches): These maps usually stay in rotation for a set window of time, typically between 60 to 90 minutes. This allows casual players to experience several different locales in a single evening session.
  • Ranked Leagues: To maintain competitive integrity and allow players to develop specific strategies, the Ranked rotation typically stays on one map for a full 24 hours. This gives you enough time to master your rotations and legend picks for that specific geography.
  • Mixtape: Since these modes are designed for fast-paced combat and warm-ups, the rotation is the quickest in the game. Maps and modes usually swap every 15 minutes, so you are never stuck in one place for long.

Legend picks are often tied to the current map in rotation. Some legends excel in tight, urban environments with plenty of doors and verticality, while others are mandatory for crossing the massive open fields found on larger maps. Keeping an eye on the Apex map rotation tracker allows you to adjust your legend selections and loadouts before you even hit the ready button.
