Official: Astralis sold to local investor group

Independent journalist Richard Lewis reported the deal last night, and today Astralis has made it official. The company behind the Counter-Strike team has been acquired by Fusion Esports Group, a Danish investor group led by Jakob Lund Kristensen and Jonas Gundersen.

Both leaders have deep roots in esports and in Astralis. Lund Kristensen co-founded Astralis and BLAST and previously served as Chief Revenue Officer at Astralis. Gundersen was most recently Group COO at Ninjas in Pyjamas, bringing international operations experience.

The investor group also includes Sander Janca of Flatpay, Thorbjørn Rønje of Bifrost Studios, Sebastian Seilund of Userflow, and other entrepreneurs.

In Astralis’ LinkedIn announcement, Lund Kristensen called Astralis “one of the biggest brands in esports” and said the potential remains enormous, commercially and competitively. He outlined a plan to build a new Astralis with fresh energy and methods while keeping performance at the centre, and stressed patience as the club integrates a new player.

Gundersen said Astralis’ impact in bringing esports into the mainstream “cannot be overstated” and that the organisation fits Fusion’s vision as its first acquisition, with gaming poised for another wave of growth.
