From Siberia with high ping
Danil “donk” Kryshkovets was born in Tomsk, Siberia. Situated more than 5,000 km from the nearest CS server in Stockholm, the Spirit rifler grew accustomed to playing CS:GO with 100 ping. This challenging environment ultimately helped donk elevate his game in CS2.
“I have had to play from Tomsk with 100 ping, and when you play on such a high ping, you cannot stay still in the game, you have to be on the move always. And that is kind of the gameplay in CS2, so I think it has been easier for me to adapt and why the transition has been so smooth,” donk told Pley.gg back in November 2023.
In 2023, the Spirit player started to gain massive attention after destroying FACEIT lobbies while performing excellently for the Spirit Academy team. He was promoted to Spirit’s main roster in the summer of 2023 alongside Artem “ArtFr0st” Kharitonov and Myroslav “zont1x” Plakhotia, finding instant success by winning the BetBoom Dacha tournament.
“I like to play cocky”
During his early LAN events, donk’s behavior was frequently highlighted due to his passionate shouting and taunting of opponents. This attitude drew some criticism from NAVI’s experienced head coach, Andrey “B1ad3” Gorodenskiy, after a match at IEM Katowice in 2024.

He has a great future, but I think the only thing he needs is to fix his behavior. Sometimes he’s screaming really bad words at this age, and it’s weird, very sad that nobody around can help him, to have good advice to say to him… I would really like to advise him not to be that kind of aggressive, screaming. It’s a dangerous road,” B1ad3 told HLTV in an interview at the time.
In an interview during his breakout year, donk explained his playstyle on the server:
My playstyle is very aggressive, I like to take duels, and I like to play cocky. But I also like to play disciplined sometimes. I would say my strengths on the server are my confidence in taking duels, and my confidence that I will out-aim and out-play my opponent.
The 2024 no. 1 in the World
While earlier in his career analysts debated whether Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut would remain the clear-cut best player in the world, donk completely shattered expectations. His 2024 campaign permanently elevated him to the absolute pinnacle of CS2. He remarkably won IEM Katowice 2024 with a staggering, record-breaking rating of 1.70, and later conquered the MVP title at the Shanghai Major in late 2024 with Team Spirit. He officially dethroned his peers by taking home HLTV’s prestigious Number 1 Player of 2024 award.
In the race for greatness, donk often looked up to one of his heroes, Nikola “NiKo” Kovac, who finished 2023 as the second-best player in the world. donk once explained why NiKo was his idol:
Because our playstyle is quite similar and he’s also a confident player, who takes a lot of duels, and is capable of producing highlights as well. I’m watching his demos so if I see something good that I can replicate, then for sure I will try to incorporate it in my own game.
In 2025, however, the young Russian superstar was dethroned by “ZywOo”, who had an insane year with two Major and multiple tournament victories.
Inspired by Team Vitality
Instead of looking outward for a new home, the young rifler looks to his biggest rivals for inspiration on how to build a lasting legacy. While he firmly views reigning giants Team Vitality as his primary obstacle, he admits to admiring their current form and longevity.
It’s enemy number one, but also it’s very inspiring to see this team play in the way they play,” donk explained.
For donk, the rival roster serves as a perfect blueprint for what a dedicated team can accomplish over time. He finds particular motivation in their veteran leadership and the environment that keeps them at the top.
Actually, all five players are very inspiring because you see apEX playing 20 years and he’s still hungry for winning. Everyone in this five-man roster is great. It’s very inspiring in terms of what you can achieve if you have the right people and maybe the right structure.
Building a Legacy with Team Spirit
While many young stars in the Counter-Strike scene eventually look toward international rosters to chase bigger paychecks or new opportunities, Danil “donk” Kryshkovets is carving his own path. Speaking to Pley.gg at the media day before BLAST Rotterdam, the 19-year-old phenom made it clear that he has no intentions of following in the footsteps of fellow countrymen like Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov or Maksim “kyousuke” Lukin.
When asked if he would ever consider joining an international roster in the future, donk’s answer was an unwavering commitment to Team Spirit. For him, the bond he shares with his current organization transcends standard professional ambition. His dedication isn’t just tied to the team’s current success, as he emphasized a willingness to stick with the organization through thick and thin.
I don’t know why I should, actually. For me, Spirit is a family organization. Even if everything goes wrong, I think I will stay in Spirit,” donk told Pley.gg.
Today, as we move further into 2026, it is the younger players who are now studying donk’s demos, trying to replicate the magic of the undisputed king of Counter-Strike 2.
