Valorant agents are the playable characters in Valorant, each representing an agent of the Valorant Protocol. Every agent has a unique role, a set of four abilities including a signature and ultimate, and contributes differently to team strategies.
Overview of Valorant Agents
At the start, five agents are immediately available: Brimstone, Jett, Phoenix, Sage, and Sova. Agents can be unlocked permanently through Valorant Points, Kingdom Credits, or Free Agent Tokens, or temporarily via Xbox Game Pass and The Range. Each agent has 100 base HP, which can be increased with shields by up to 50 points.
Agents are assigned to one of four roles:
- Controllers: Experts at controlling territory, using abilities to block enemy movement and support team strategies
- Duelists: Self-sufficient fraggers who lead engagements and secure kills for the team
- Initiators: Open angles and gather information to help the team push contested areas
- Sentinels: Defensive specialists who lock down sites and protect flanks
Development
Riot initially planned 12 agents at launch, but only 8 were available in early press builds. Breach was introduced during a private event on March 29, 2020, and Raze was added at Closed Beta launch on April 7, 2020, bringing the total to 10 agents. Riot aims to release a new agent approximately once per act, with development taking 12 to 15 months per agent. Each new character is designed to fill gaps in playstyles, thematic diversity, and game balance.

Upcoming Agents
One additional agent, called Veto, is expected to release in Season 2025. Based on teasers, this agent is from Senegal and is currently known as Agent 08. Scrapped Agents
Several agents were initially planned but never released, including Crusader, Joules, and Shatter. These concepts were scrapped during development and will not appear in Valorant.
Valorant agents are highly customizable through their abilities and roles, making each agent unique in playstyle. Understanding the strengths and purpose of each agent is essential for competitive play and mastering Valorant.
