Riot Games has officially rolled out Valorant Ranked Verification, a new system that requires players to verify their accounts before playing Competitive mode. The feature is part of Riot’s ongoing efforts to fight smurfing, account sharing, and boosting in higher ranks.
This verification system is now in effect for players ranked Ascendant and above, as well as accounts suspected of smurfing or other manipulative behavior in ranked matchmaking.

What is Valorant Ranked Verification?
Ranked Verification requires players to enable Riot Mobile Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to gain access to Competitive mode. Players who have not yet activated MFA will now see a verification prompt within the Valorant client before they can queue for ranked matches.
This new feature ties directly into Riot’s Riot Mobile verification initiative, introduced in patch 11.09, which helps ensure that accounts in Competitive are owned and operated by a single player.
Who needs to verify their account?
You will be required to verify your account if:
- You are ranked Ascendant or higher in Competitive.
- Your account has been flagged for smurfing, boosting, or sharing.
- You are returning to ranked play after recent inactivity and have not yet enabled MFA.
How to verify your Valorant account
Here’s how players can complete the new Valorant Ranked Verification process:
Step 1:
Log in to your Riot Games account through the official Riot web portal
Step 2:
Navigate to the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) section under account settings and follow the prompts to enable Riot Mobile MFA. You can find detailed guidance on Riot’s Player Support site
Step 3:
Once MFA is activated, sign out and exit from the Riot Client. Log back in, and your account will now be verified for Competitive play.
When successfully verified, players will see a “Verify Account” prompt in the Ranked menu replaced by access to queue up as normal.
Why is Riot implementing this?
Riot Games has long struggled with smurfing – where higher-ranked players use low-level alternate accounts to play against less experienced opponents – and account sharing among players trying to climb faster.
With Ranked Verification, Riot aims to:
- Reduce smurfing and boosting in Competitive mode.
- Strengthen account security and player identity.
- Preserve fairness at high ranks, particularly Ascendant, Immortal, and Radiant tiers.
