G2 close in on HYUNMIN to replace jawgemo

The former DRX Duelist would leave the Pacific for VCT Americas and take jawgemo’s place in a G2 lineup that is being rebuilt around trent and leaf.

G2 Esports have reached a verbal agreement with Song “HYUNMIN” Hyun-min for the 2027 VCT season, according to sources speaking to Sheep Esports. The 20-year-old South Korean would replace Alexander “jawgemo” Mor as G2’s Duelist. Neither G2 nor the player has confirmed the move.

Sheep published its report on Monday at , the day 2026 VCT contracts expire. The deal was first reported on X by Lenkee11 on Sunday evening, and Sheep writes that the agreement was reached that day.

A free agent since DRX lost their seat

HYUNMIN became available on 22 October, when DRX parted ways with him, MaKo, BeYN and free1ng, along with head coach termi and coach Argency. The Korean organisation had missed out on a partner seat for 2027, and he was one of the names on our list of departures after Champions.

He joined DRX in October 2024 from CREST GAMING Zst, a Challengers team in Japan, and made an instant impact. His first VCT season brought the VCT Pacific Kickoff 2025 title, a 2-0 win over Sentinels to open Masters Bangkok and third place at Champions Paris, where DRX knocked G2 out on the way. At that Champions he went 362-327 over 22 maps with 141.3 ADR, playing Waylay on almost every map.

2026 went the other way for DRX. They finished sixth at Pacific Kickoff, fifth to sixth in Stage 1 and seventh to eighth in Stage 2, and did not reach any of the three global events. HYUNMIN’s own numbers held up better than the results.

His agent pool is built on the classic Duelists. Raze and Jett are his most played agents over his career, 66 maps each, with Neon and Waylay next, and in 2026 he also brought out Phoenix and Yoru.

What G2 would get

G2 finished fourth at Champions Shanghai, their best result at the event, and have a partner seat for 2027. Their 2026 also included the VCT Americas Stage 1 title, a 3-2 win over LEVIATÁN in the grand final, and fourth place at Masters Santiago.

The lineup is still being rebuilt. In-game leader valyn left G2 on 27 October, and VLR now lists jawgemo, BABYBAY, trent and leaf. According to Sheep, LEVIATÁN pair Sato and kiNgg are set to replace BABYBAY and valyn, which with HYUNMIN would make this G2’s 2027 roster:

For jawgemo, it would end a run that started when G2 signed him in October 2024. He has been G2’s Duelist on Neon and Raze, and in 2026 he had a negative K-D at Kickoff, in both Americas stages and at Champions, including 437-485 in Stage 2 and 262-278 in Shanghai. HYUNMIN posted a positive K-D in all three Pacific stages, although in a weaker team and a different region.

From Japan to the Americas in three seasons

The move would make HYUNMIN the only player in G2’s five from outside the Americas, next to two Americans, a Brazilian and a Chilean. It would also be his third circuit in three seasons: Challengers in Japan with CREST GAMING Zst in 2024, two years of VCT Pacific with DRX, and now the Americas league with a team that is still waiting for its first international trophy.
