tabseN after RMR success: I’ve been disappointed in how much backlash we’ve received
The BIG captain reflects on the Germans' outstanding RMR campaign in Shanghai and addresses the criticism they have endured.
BIG has ended their two-year Major drought in emphatic fashion, securing a place at the Perfect World Major in Shanghai after an impressive run at the European RMR.
The German squad, led by Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz, delivered an immaculate 3-0 campaign, redeeming themselves after missing out on the BLAST Paris Major and the PGL Major Copenhagen.
A proud captain
Speaking with James Banks following their decisive victory over Passion UA, tabseN expressed his pride in the team’s performance while also using the chance to address the criticisms they’ve faced:
- It feels amazing to be back [at a Major]. My emotions are still pacing, but it feels good to be back and I’m really proud of how good Counter-Strike we showed, tabseN said.
- I’m glad that German CS is back where it belongs. It took some time for us, but I never stopped believing. I have been disappointed in how much backlash we have received in the past – hopefully, this will change now. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but I can just assure you guys that we’re working, and now we have proved it.
“Everyone makes it click”
The road back to Major contention hasn’t been easy for BIG. After struggling with consistency and adapting to roster changes earlier in the year, tabseN and his coaching staff have faced a tough job in rebuilding a winning system.
Something tabseN also touched on in the post-match interview.
- Consistency is the key and we always believed in it. Me and the coaching staff worked really hard in implementing our system with the players and I think everyone feels comfortable right now in our system. I also feel really comfortable, I call good and I play good – everyone makes it click, tabseN said on the broadcast.
Going into the RMR in Shanghai, BIG's last appearance was against GUN5 - #48 in the world - which they lost quite disappointedly. However, less than two weeks later they are now qualified for the Major, even entering the tournament at the more favorable Elimination Stage.
