On August 1, Valve released a 522 MB hot-fix for Counter-Strike 2, addressing bugs introduced by the large 2.8 GB update on July 29. This marks the third update in as many days, as Valve continues to stabilize the game following widespread community feedback.
Key Fixes in the 522 MB Patch
The update focuses on gameplay and quality-of-life improvements:
- Grenade exploit removed: Players could previously prime a grenade, start throwing, and inspect it—this has been patched.
- Molotovs and effects: Fixed Molotov fire particles and audio syncing in first-person view. Viewmodel lag issues were also corrected.
- Sound fixes: Incendiary and smoke grenades now play the correct sound effects.
- Bunny-hopping tweaks: Valve addressed a bug where the bhop speed penalty would continue even without input. The jump-spam timer now behaves properly.
- Map update: The community-made map Jura was updated with performance, clipping, and spawn fixes.
Why It Matters
This hot-fix resolves several high-frustration bugs affecting competitive play. Accurate sound and grenade behavior are core to CS2’s gameplay, and smoother bunny-hopping is especially important to movement-focused players. The Jura update also shows continued support for community content.
Context: July 29’s Problematic Patch
The original 2.8 GB update overhauled animations, introduced the new AnimGraph2 system, updated multiple maps, and modified gameplay mechanics. While some players welcomed the changes, many criticized the new animations and reported issues with movement and bhopping.
Valve’s Rapid Response
Following strong feedback, Valve has issued daily patches to fix animation glitches, movement bugs, and weapon behavior. The August 1 patch is the latest in this effort, indicating that Valve is actively listening and reacting to player concerns.
