CS2 Receives Third Patch in Four Days

Valve has rolled out its third update in four days for Counter‑Strike 2, releasing another small patch overnight following a major June 28 update and a subsequent fix the day before.

What’s Fixed in the Latest Update

The latest patch, issued late on July 30, addresses critical bugs introduced in the June 28 overhaul:

  • Fixed a weapon and bomb placement bug, preventing the dropped bomb or other weapons from appearing in incorrect locations during or after a round. This issue was first highlighted by former pro Niels Christian “NaToSaphiX” Sillassen on Twitter.
  • Removed an exploit that allowed weapons to fire immediately after redeploy if a reload was cancelled before fully adding ammo.

Other tweaks included fixes to movement behaviors, first-person animation inconsistencies, clip issues on grenades or StatTrak displays, AWP visual glitches, and vote UI errors.

Background: The June 28 Overhaul and Community Backlash

On June 28, Valve deployed a sweeping update that completely replaced first-person animations across weapons, knives, and inspect sequences as part of a shift to their new AnimGraph2 system.

The patch also delivered significant map adjustments to Inferno, Overpass, and Train, including updated cover placements, lighting, textures, and sightlines.

While many users praised the overhaul, especially for pistol animations reminiscent of older titles, others quickly voiced complaints, particularly concerning knife clipping, movement issues, and a sense that many animations felt unfinished.

From Reddit:

“The new animations for guns generally feel really good … but the knives now feel super unpolished… clip through hands, especially when inspecting them”
“Caught the bomb falling through the floor… bomb can end up in a few different locations”

Why It Matters

This latest patch, released overnight on July 30, followed a quick fix on July 29 and marks Valve’s attempt to swiftly address player-reported bugs. The bomb physics glitch in particular was seen as a match-critical issue, especially in competitive play.

However, the recurring bugs and rushed feel of the initial animations have drawn scrutiny. Players remain wary that major animation systems were rolled out before adequate polish.

In Summary

  • A major AnimGraph2 overhaul dropped June 28, causing widespread changes to weapons, knives, and map layouts.
  • Two rapid patches followed on July 29 and July 30, focusing on fixing the bomb placement glitch, a premature firing exploit after reload cancellations, and various animation issues.
  • Community feedback remains split. Some appreciate the updated visuals and smoother mechanics, while others criticize bugs and unfinished animations.

With Valve quickly reacting to issues, players are keeping a close eye on future updates for signs of more polish and consistency. You can read the update notes here.
