Speaking with FURIA’s sniper Danil “molodoy” Golubenko after the team locked in a 3-0 record at the Budapest Major, the young star admitted that the only thing slowing him down right now is not an opponent, but a cold.
“I’m feeling amazing, but also not so good because I am a little bit sick, but we have time to chill now.”
FURIA cruised through Stage 3 with convincing map wins dropping only 23 rounds over 4 maps. Even when the other side started to string rounds together, molodoy never really felt the game slipping away.
“If you lose one round you lose economy and people can come back… you do not need to give this chance.”
For him, the key is to keep pushing and not let the opponent breathe.
“You might insta-lose if you give them a chance and they take with it.”
FURIA’s confidence machine
On paper, beating some of the best teams in the world and dropping barely any rounds would be the perfect confidence boost heading into playoffs. For molodoy, it does not really change anything, because his confidence is always on.
“I have confidence all the time. For me it does not matter if we win 10 games or lose 10 games, I have confidence all the time.”
He sees that as one of his biggest values inside the squad.
“If you have people who have confidence all the time, it is very good for the team.”
That belief is backed up by his veteran captain. FalleN has already said he is happy to hand over the AWP if molodoy keeps performing like this, and that trust clearly matters.
“If you do not give me confidence and you do not let me play my game, maybe I don’t play good… my team give me my game and it’s very good for me.”
Molodoy is not just adapting to a new role, he is also adapting to a new culture. The Brazilian fans have already adopted him with a chant and a nickname. On the server, he feels the CIS-Brazil blend is exactly what makes this FURIA roster click.
“Brazilian people like to play a little bit more hiding, but Mareks [YEKINDAR] and me play very aggressive. Two players who play aggressive and three players who hide more is a very good combo.”
With yuurih and KSCERATO closing out rounds behind the aggression from molodoy and YEKINDAR, and FalleN calling the shots, FURIA look more complete than they have in a long time.
