Gentle Mates’ stint in CS2 ends after a year

The French organization announced the release of the Iberian roster that they signed in September 2025.

Gentle Mates have announced their departure from CS2 less than a year into their time within the esport. It comes after a month since they sold their AWPer, Antonio ‘MartinezSa’ Martinez to HEROIC.

The French organization is known for their foundational rivalry with Team Vitality, and compete in multiple FPS games such as Valorant, Call of Duty and Warzone. They entered CS2 in September 2025 signing a Spanish core that could get upsets, but notably failed to reach the Majors.

“That’s money we can’t recoup” – Gentle Mates CEO

Corentin ‘Gotaga’ Houssein, one of the co-founders of Vitality and current CEO of Gentle Mates revealed that the organization spent up to $1,000,000 per year funding their CS2 roster. He told L’Equipe that failing to reach the Major and recoup these expenses led to abandoning CS2.

Gentle Mates’ departure from CS2 means the players, veterans of the scene at this point, are competing without an organization and a stand-in AWPer, under the name Iberian Soul.

They told HLTV that they are in talks with organizations, but that they are still looking for a new AWPer to sign, saying that Alvaro ‘SunPayus’ Garcia is “an option”.
