FUT is on the verge of completing the signing of Álvaro “SunPayus” García from G2, according to a report by HLTV. The 27-year-old Spanish AWPer is slated to take over primary sniper duties from Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov, who has faced consistency issues throughout the 2026 season.
Contract renewals signaled impending change
The impending transfer follows speculation within the scene after FUT announced contract extensions for the other four members of the active lineup and head coach András “coolio” Fercsák. Leaving cmtry out of the renewal announcements raised questions regarding his future in the starting five.
The Ukrainian sniper joined FUT in August 2025 when the Turkish organization acquired the core of Natus Vincere Junior. While he secured an MVP award in April 2026 after posting a 1.24 rating during FUT’s title run at PGL Bucharest, his numbers dropped over the remainder of the season, resulting in an average 1.00 rating on LAN across 2026.
Scouting options for the AWP role
According to HLTV, FUT explored other options for the sniper role before moving forward with the Spanish player, evaluating Alan “flayy” Krupa and holding tryouts with Henrich “sl3nd” Hevesi.
SunPayus has been on G2’s bench since June, when the team replaced him with Artem “r1nkle” Moroz. His arrival introduces tier-one experience to the young roster, along with the capacity to serve as a secondary voice during mid-round calling.
Debut planned for PGL Masters Bucharest
The acquisition represents FUT’s second major signing since entering Counter-Strike. The organization previously acquired Yasin “xfl0ud” Koç from HEROIC in July, which moved Laurențiu “lauNX” Țârlea to the bench.
SunPayus is expected to make his first official appearance for FUT at PGL Masters Bucharest, which is scheduled to run from October 24 to 31.
