Storylines

The first Major in Argentina

Buenos Aires is the second South American city to host a Major, after the IEM Rio Major 2022, where Outsiders beat HEROIC 2-0 in the final. HLTV first reported the plan on 16 January 2026, and FiReLEAGUE confirmed it two days later. Read more in our story from the announcement.

From Camp Nou to a Major

FiReSPORTS have run FiReLEAGUE since 2020. Their best-known event was the 2022 final at Camp Nou in Barcelona, and they have since held a show match at Movistar Arena in 2023 and events at Estadio Obras and in a subway station in Buenos Aires. The prize pools have been far smaller than a Major’s: the largest so far was $150,000.

Movistar Arena for the playoffs

The playoffs are played at Movistar Arena, the same venue FiReLEAGUE used in 2023. Tickets went on sale in August 2026, with a four-day pass from ARS 240,000. FiReSPORTS have said that all stages will have fans in the venue.

Two Majors outside Europe

Perfect World host the second Major of 2027 in Shanghai from 22 November to 12 December, confirmed in September. With Singapore in December 2026, three Majors in a row are played outside Europe.

How teams qualify

All 32 teams are invited from Valve’s Regional Standings (VRS), with no open qualifiers. Sixteen teams start in Stage 1, and eight more join in each of Stage 2 and Stage 3. How many of the Stage 2 and Stage 3 places go to each region depends on how the regions did at the Major before, PGL Major Singapore in December 2026. Since October 2026, a team must have played in its region for three months to count for it (our story). Read more about the VRS.
