FiReLeague, a South American tournament organizer, has been awarded the first Counter-Strike Major of 2027, set to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Second Major in South America
The Buenos Aires Major will be only the second Counter-Strike Major hosted in South America, following IEM Rio 2022. That event was won by Outsiders (Virtus.pro), with HEROIC finishing as runners-up.
Rumors about Argentina hosting a Major have now been confirmed, and HLTV reports that the second Major of 2027 is expected to be held in Shanghai. That is notable considering the final Major of 2026 is set for Singapore, which would make it three straight Majors outside Europe.
FiReLeague has been running events in South America since 2020, primarily focused on the local scene. Their biggest prize pool so far was $150,000 at the FiReLEAGUE Global Final 2023, so being handed a Major is a massive step up in scale and spotlight for the organizer.
