CS2 Update: Valve fixes physics performance and refines Anubis clipping

Valve released a targeted update for Counter-Strike 2 last night, focusing on map polish and two specific engine-level performance bugs. While small in scope, the patch addresses some irritating visual and technical issues that have cropped up since the start of Premier Season 4.

Technical Fixes and Performance

The Misc section of the notes highlights two key bug fixes. First, Valve addressed a long-standing annoyance for spectators. Switching between first-person targets will no longer cause viewmodel animations, such as weapon draws or idles, to reset. This should make the viewing experience significantly smoother for tournament broadcasts and players watching their teammates.

More importantly, the developers fixed a performance leak related to physics calculations occurring far from the origin. In Source 2, the origin is the coordinate (0,0,0) of a map. On larger maps or those with complex community-made geometry, physics objects moving far away from this center point could cause frame stutters or server-side lag.

Map Adjustments: Anubis and Poseidon

The map pool received most of the attention in this update, with Anubis getting further refinement after its recent layout overhaul.

Anubis

  • Clipping Improvements: Valve adjusted player clipping around the new drop to prevent players from getting stuck or experiencing jagged movement.
  • Utility Fixes: Grenade clipping was fixed around the connector (affectionately called the e-box) hole. This ensures that smokes and flashes will no longer bounce off invisible pixels when thrown through the new tactical openings.

Poseidon

  • This community-made Wingman map was updated to its latest workshop version. These updates usually include optimizations, lighting fixes, and minor layout tweaks based on community feedback since its inclusion in the game.
