FlyQuest took at big scalp at the StarLadder Budapest Major as they took down one of the pre-tournament favorites to qualify for stage 2 in Legacy.
In his post game interview FlyQuest’s coach Aaron “AZR” Ward talked with James Banks and gave some good insight.
“We have to treat every opponent, but also not fear any team”
FlyQuest took down Legacy 13-11 on Train, a map not many expected to make it through the veto, as it’s a map the Australians historically been very good at. AZR was both surprised and happy they ended on Train.
“We’re pretty happy it came to that [Train]”
At one point in the match FlyQuest was down 10-4, but took 9 straight CT rounds to close out the game 13-10. The Australian coach highlights his teams mental as the big factor.
“The mental resilliance was awesome”
FlyQuest are now 1-0 in the Stage 1 swiss system and will play another match later today.
The match
Legacy vs FlyQuest (Train)
FlyQuest opened the map with a strong 3-0 start before Legacy answered by winning the first gun round to make it 3-1. Legacy continued to push back and tied the game 3-3 off Dumau’s aggressive A-main pressure.
FlyQuest secured their first gun round of the half and narrowed the gap to 6-4 after a well-played pistol round, but Legacy closed the half confidently and went into halftime with an 8-4 lead. With that deficit, FlyQuest needed the second pistol to spark a comeback.
Legacy won the pistol after a chaotic round and extended their lead to 9-4. FlyQuest finally found their first CT round thanks to a jks 1v2 clutch, reducing the score to 10-5, and followed it up with two more rounds to close the gap to 10-7. Their CT side fully came alive as they kept shutting Legacy down, bringing the score to 10-9.
At 11-10, FlyQuest took their first lead since 3-2 in the opening half, and soon after they reached match point at 12-10, winning eight straight rounds. The comeback was completed in style, as FlyQuest upset Legacy 13-10 with nine consecutive CT rounds to close out the map.
