Astralis has been sent packing from BLAST Open Lisbon without a single map victory to their name.
The final blow came at the hands of Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s FaZe, who dominated the Danish squad in a one-sided affair on Friday.
The series ended with 13-7 on Train and 13-6 on Nuke, with FaZe’s Helvijs ‘broky’ Saukants leading the server.
This defeat marked Astralis’ second loss in Group A, following an earlier defeat to Vitality, resulting in an early elimination from the $400,000 tournament.
Losing out on valuable VRS points
Crashing out in last place is tough on its own, but for Astralis, the consequences could be even more severe when it comes to their Major qualification hopes.
With this result, Astralis has failed to gain any additional VRS points and now risks losing their direct invite to Phase 2 of the BLAST.tv Austin Major.
Before BLAST Open Lisbon, Astralis sat at #9 in Europe’s VRS rankings, but with no points added and potential challengers Virtus.pro and 3DMAX still in contention, the Danes are now in real danger of being overtaken.
If Astralis drops out of the Top 10 on Valve’s global ranking it means they will have to qualify for the Major through the MRQ, formerly known as the RMR – a phase that has proved to cause a lot of heartbreak and frustration for Astralis over the years.
