Season 29 is shaping up to be a massive shift for the recon meta. While some legends are struggling to find their place, Vantage is receiving a comprehensive overhaul that touches every part of her kit. Meanwhile, Alter is seeing some significant adjustments to her portal utility that might force players to rethink their rotation strategies.
TL;DR
- Vantage becomes an ultimate generating machine with her new passive buff.
- Significant mobility increases to Echo Relocation make Vantage much harder to catch.
- Sniper’s Mark receives handling buffs and a magnification increase.
- Alter faces increased cooldowns and reduced ultimate range to curb her dominance.
Vantage Receives Massive Kit Overhaul

Vantage has often struggled to compete with the likes of Valkyrie or Pathfinder for that coveted movement/recon hybrid slot. The Season 29 changes aim to fix that by making her feel more fluid and rewarding her for actually doing her job: scouting.
The most interesting change is to Spotter’s Lens. By simply tracking teams, you now generate 70% of an ultimate bullet. This turns Vantage into a constant long range threat without needing to hunt for ultimate accelerants. If you are diligent with your passive, you will almost always have a shot ready for an opening pick.
Tactical and Ultimate Stat Changes
The movement buffs to Echo Relocation are substantial. Removing hard landings and increasing the double jump distance means Vantage can now transition into a slide or a sprint immediately upon landing, maintaining her momentum during a push or a getaway.
| Ability | Attribute | Old Value | New Value |
| Tactical | Echo Velocity | 20m/s | 21m/s |
| Tactical | Double Jump Range | 4m | 7m |
| Tactical | Cooldown | 20s | 17s |
| Ultimate | Rechamber Time | 1.2s | 1.1s |
| Ultimate | ADS Time | 0.5s | 0.4s |
| Ultimate | Scope Zoom | 3x | 4x |
The addition of a 2x canted sight on her ultimate is a massive quality of life improvement. It allows her to defend herself more effectively if a team jumps her while she has her custom rifle out, reducing the clunkiness of the weapon at mid range.
New Perk Meta: Herd Tracker
Vantage’s level 2 perk, Herd Tracker, is getting a significant functional buff. Pinging one enemy will now track their entire squad. This provides wallhack-style information for your team without needing a Bloodhound or Seer, making her a much more viable pick for coordinated ranked play.
Alter Nerfs for season 29

Alter has been a polarizing addition to the roster, and Respawn is pulling back on some of her power in Season 29. The focus here is clearly on making her portal play more risky and less of a guaranteed get out of jail free card.
Ultimate and Tactical Adjustments
Her Void Passage tactical is seeing a cooldown increase, which means you will have to be more calculated about when you decide to phase through walls. You can no longer spam it to weave through buildings quite as easily.
- Ultimate range has been reduced, limiting how far teams can travel through the portal.
- Recall time has increased, meaning you are vulnerable for longer while retreating.
- The delay before the portal opens has been decreased, which is a small silver lining for faster deployments.
The Level 3 Void Breacher perk is also taking a hit. This nerf, combined with the ultimate range reduction, suggests that Respawn wants Alter to be used for tactical repositioning within a POI rather than map wide rotations.
