Apex Legends Season 28 Breach patch notes

The Outlands are changing forever with the launch of Apex Legends Season 28: Breach on February 10, 2026.

The Outlands are changing forever with the launch of Apex Legends Season 28: Breach on February 10, 2026. This massive update, coinciding with the game’s 7th Anniversary, focuses on the concept of environmental destruction and defensive reinforcement. The headline feature is the introduction of Hardlight Mesh, a tactical window system that fundamentally alters how squads approach building fights. Combined with a total overhaul for Fuse and significant “mini-reworks” for Bloodhound and Catalyst, the meta is shifting toward aggressive, close-quarters breaches.

New gameplay system: Hardlight Mesh windows

The biggest addition to the gameplay loop in Season 28 is the Hardlight Mesh. These translucent, bullet-resistant windows have been added to preset positions on structures across World’s Edge, Broken Moon, and E-District. They act as a physical barrier that allows visibility while blocking all projectiles and player movement until they are shattered.

Hardlight Mesh mechanics and durability

  • Base Health: Each mesh starts with 200 HP.
  • Vulnerability: Hardlight takes standard damage from most weapons but is extremely weak to specific sources: Explosives (8.5x), Snipers (3.5x), and Shotguns (2.5x). Legend abilities deal a massive 10.0x damage to these structures.
  • The Breach: Breaking a mesh creates a new entry point for grenades, bullets, or a full squad push.
  • The Repair: Controller Legends (Catalyst, Rampart, Wattson, and Caustic) are the only ones who can repair a broken mesh.
  • Reinforcement: A Controller Legend can Reinforce a mesh, boosting its health to a staggering 1250 HP.

Strategic Limits: Controllers can only maintain a maximum of 4 Reinforced Hardlights at any time. If you exceed this limit, the oldest reinforcement will decay back to its baseline 200 HP state.

Legend reworks: Fuse, Bloodhound, and Catalyst

Fuse: The premier breach specialist

fuse splash line

Fuse has received the most comprehensive rework in Season 28 to cement his identity as “mobile artillery.” His kit is now significantly faster and more accurate, making him the perfect counter to fortified positions.

  • Passive: Fuse is no longer slowed by his own explosive damage.
  • Tactical (Knuckle Cluster): Weapon stow time is faster, the trajectory is flatter for better aim, and the delay before explosions start has been slashed from 1.7s to 1.0s. Base damage is up to 15, but the total duration is reduced by 50% to allow for faster follow-up pushes.
  • Ultimate (The Motherlode): This has been entirely refreshed. It now fires a mortar that explodes on the ground and sprays smaller bombs around the impact site. When aiming down sights (ADS), the mortar can pierce cover up to 13m deep, delivering explosives directly to the other side of walls or Hardlight Mesh.
  • New Upgrades:
    • Knuckle Jumper: Jumping next to your own Knuckle Cluster provides an explosive boost, launching Fuse across the battlefield.
    • Reignition: Dealing explosive damage to enemies recharges your ultimate energy (1 second of cooldown reduced for every 2 damage dealt).
    • Pyro Techniques: Your ultimate drops lingering patches of fire for 8 seconds after the bombs explode.

Bloodhound: The tracker’s resurgence

Bloodhound’s buffs focus on reducing “dead time” and rewarding aggressive hunters with high ultimate uptime.

  • Tactical: Total scan duration is increased to 4 seconds. The screen coloration has been reduced to keep your vision clear during a push.
  • Ultimate (Beast of the Hunt): Cooldown has been drastically reduced to 2.5 minutes (was 4 minutes). Scoring a knockdown now extends the ultimate’s duration by 5 seconds.
  • New Upgrades:
    • Taste of Blood: Regenerates 50 health immediately upon scoring a knockdown while the ultimate is active.
    • Raven’s Flight: White Ravens can now ping enemies from twice the normal distance.

Catalyst: Flexible defense

Catalyst gains more versatility, particularly with how she utilizes her ultimate to control space.

  • Tactical: Spikes can be thrown further, the pool size is 50% larger, and the delay before they deal damage is reduced to 1 second.
  • Ultimate (Dark Veil): Players can now toggle to deploy the wall horizontally. The wall also builds through doors and defensive domes, such as Gibraltar’s Bubble.
  • New Upgrades:
    • Hidden Spikes: The spike pool remains invisible to enemies until they are triggered.
    • Sole Piercer: Spike traps activate 50% faster and deal 5 additional damage per hit.

Mastiff vs EVA-8 in season 28

The Mastiff now fires 5 pellets in a horizontal line. Its spread is significantly tighter when aiming down sights (ADS), making it crucial to do so for maximum damage at range. The EVA-8 has a tightened “8” shape pattern with 9 pellets, offering a more consistent spread for hip-fire engagements where you need to track a moving target.

Visual guide to Mastiff & Eva-8’s blast pattern

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Mastiff if you are a player who prefers to peek from cover and can consistently hit your ADS shots. The Dual Shell hop-up makes reloading much faster during a fight.
  • Choose the EVA-8 if you have a more aggressive, “run-and-gun” playstyle. Its faster rate of fire, combined with the Double Tap Trigger, allows you to output massive damage in a short burst without needing to be perfectly accurate.

Loot pool cleanup and Ranked changes

Respawn is streamlining the inventory experience and bringing consistency back to competitive play.

  • Knockdown Shields: Removed from the ground loot pool entirely. Your knockdown shield rarity now scales with your Legend Level via the EVO system.
  • Backpacks: Level 1 (White) backpacks have been removed from the map. All players now spawn with a White backpack as part of their starter kit.
  • Ranked Dropship: The “Drop Zone” experiment has ended. Ranked matches will return to the traditional Dropship format, restoring player agency over landing locations.

Apex Legends 7th Anniversary Celebration

The Outlands are marking a massive milestone with the 7th Anniversary Event, launching alongside Season 28 on February 10, 2026. This year’s celebration focuses heavily on accessibility and community, offering players a chance to permanently unlock four Legends, Valkyrie, Revenant, Conduit, and Sparrow, through rotating weekly challenges.

Collectors can look forward to the debut of a Mythic Peacekeeper skin and the opportunity to earn Heirloom Shards by completing the event collection. For the first time, Respawn is also granting a Free Reactive Weapon Pack, ensuring every player can add a high-tier evolving cosmetic to their arsenal just for participating in the festivities.
