Catalyst becomes the ultimate anchor in Season 28 with a major buff!

The launch of Apex Legends Season 28: Breach has introduced a massive shift in how Controller Legends interact with the environment. Catalyst is at the forefront of this change, receiving a “mini-rework” designed to make her the ultimate counter to the new Hardlight Mesh destructible windows. While Fuse is built to break through defenses, the new Catalyst is built to make them unbreakable.

Enhanced Piercing Spikes and hidden traps

Catalyst’s tactical utility has been significantly “amped up” to provide more versatility when holding a zone. The core mechanics of her Piercing Spikes have been adjusted for better reach and reactivity.

  • Extended Range: Piercing Spikes can now be thrown significantly further, allowing Catalyst to trap chokepoints from a safer distance.
  • Faster Activation: Once deployed, the spikes trigger faster, making them more effective against aggressive “bum-sliding” legends who previously could skip over them.

New Season 28 evolution upgrades

The rework introduces two lethal new upgrades to her evolution tree that force enemies to second-guess every room they enter:

Perk NameEffect
Hidden TrapsKeeps Piercing Spikes completely concealed from enemy vision until they are actually triggered.
Sole PiercerIncreases the trigger speed even further and boosts the damage dealt to enemies standing in the ferrofluid.

Horizontal Dark Veil: A defensive powerhouse

The most game-changing update is the massive buff to the Dark Veil ultimate. In Season 28, Catalyst players gain unprecedented flexibility in how they deploy their ferrofluid wall.

  • Horizontal Deployment: Players can now choose to deploy the Dark Veil horizontally, effectively sealing off entire chokepoints or creating a wide defensive “curtain” that is much harder for enemies to navigate around.
  • Bullet Damage Reduction: The improved wall is now a true physical barrier. It slices incoming bullet damage in half (50%), forcing attackers to either waste ammunition or push through the wall and risk being blinded and slowed.

This horizontal placement allows Catalyst to turn open hallways into fortified death traps, especially when combined with her ability to repair shattered Hardlight Mesh windows.

FAQ

How do you use Catalyst’s Dark Veil horizontally?

In Season 28, you can toggle the orientation of the Dark Veil before deployment, allowing you to place it perpendicular to your view to block wide chokepoints.

Does Catalyst’s ultimate block bullets now?

The Season 28 Dark Veil does not fully stop bullets, but it reduces incoming bullet damage by 50 percent, making it an extremely effective tool for resets and defensive holding.

What is the “Hidden Traps” perk for Catalyst?

Hidden Traps is a new upgrade that makes your Piercing Spikes invisible to enemies until they step on them, making them much harder for enemy teams to clear out.

Can Catalyst repair windows in Season 28?

Yes, as a Controller Legend, Catalyst can now repair shattered Hardlight Mesh windows and even reinforce them to increase their original strength.
