The Merry Mayhem event is now live in Apex Legends across all platforms. The holiday update brings festive Wildcard changes, powerful Mythic loot in care packages, new temporary abilities, and more free rewards to earn before the end of the split.
Wildcard mode updated for the holiday event
Wildcard mode has received a full Christmas-themed update as part of Merry Mayhem. Matches now feature holiday visuals and gameplay twists designed to speed up fights and increase chaos.
One important note is that the Dual Katana event, officially called the Supersonic Milestone event, has been extended by 21 days. This means players will not be able to craft the Dual Katana until January 6, giving more time to complete milestones.

Care package changes
The care package loot pool has been updated with high-end Mythic rewards during the event. The current care package now includes:
- Mythic R-301
- Mythic Flatline
- Power Sword Mythic melee
- Grand Slam Bat Mythic melee
These items are exclusive to the event window and significantly increase the risk-reward of contesting drops.
New Wildcard abilities added
Three new Wildcard abilities have been added to the mode, each heavily impacting fight flow:
- Flash Freeze: Silences enemy abilities when their shields are broken.
- Do-Over: Grants a free self-revive when a teammate scores a knockdown.
- Super Cells: Fully recharges shields using a single shield cell.
Known issue with Flash Freeze
The Flash Freeze Wildcard is currently causing HUD issues for some players. Respawn has acknowledged the problem and confirmed a fix is in progress.
New ranked map rotation
Ranked play has also been updated with a new map rotation:
- Olympus
- Storm Point
- E-District Daylight
This rotation favors mobility and open-space control, making legends like Valkyrie, Horizon, and Bangalore especially strong.
Alter skin removed from the store
Unfortunately, Alter’s Anarchonaut skin was removed from the store at the last minute. Respawn has confirmed there are no plans to bring it back in Split 2, making it unavailable for the foreseeable future.
Free Amped pack challenges
Players can now earn a free Amped pack by completing the following three challenges:
- Play 15 matches
- Deal 15,000 damage with SMGs
- Craft 10 Wildcards at Replicators
All three challenges must be completed to unlock the pack.
Do not forget the Dual Katana event
The Supersonic Milestone event, featuring the Dual Katana heirloom, is still live right now. With the extension in place, players have additional time to progress milestones before crafting becomes available on January 6.
