Apex Legends 2.0 Leaks – Possible PvE mode

New discussions around a possible Apex Legends 2.0 have started circulating across social media and Reddit, but as with most early leaks, not everything appears to be accurate. Some sources claim Respawn is preparing an entirely new version of the game or migrating to a new engine, while others believe the studio is continuing to refine the current version of Apex Legends with technical upgrades.

The truth about the “engine change” rumor

One of the most popular claims suggests that Apex Legends will soon move to a completely new engine. However, this rumor is almost certainly false. The official Apex Legends Reddit account already addressed this question two years ago, clarifying that there were no plans to rebuild the game on another engine:

“We have no plans to move to a new engine at this time. Changing to a new engine is a massive undertaking that would ultimately pull critical resources from supporting the live game.”

Instead of rebuilding Apex Legends from the ground up, Respawn appears to be enhancing its existing engine. The improvements to audio systems and performance stability in Season 27 are strong indicators that the developers are investing in the long-term future of the current engine.

Why an engine upgrade makes more sense

Two years ago, Respawn directly acknowledged long-standing audio issues, promising fixes that have now been implemented in Season 27. It would not make sense for the studio to spend time and money improving the existing engine’s core systems if they were planning to abandon it entirely. The addition of new features like breakable glass and barricades further supports this direction, showing the engine is still being expanded rather than replaced.

Rumors of a PvE mode or DLC in Apex Legends 2.0

There are also whispers about a paid PvE mode or DLC in development. These reports claim it could feature cooperative missions or wave-defense gameplay. While not confirmed, this idea ties back to an older placeholder image that accidentally appeared in Apex Legends’ game files several seasons ago.

The leaked image showed an arena-like environment with a central console that players appeared to defend, resembling a tower defense or survival mode. Interestingly, this same environment was used in the Loba Chronicle, suggesting Respawn may revisit the concept for a new story-driven mission.

The last official Apex Chronicle was released on July 21, 2023, so it would not be surprising if Respawn plans to continue the narrative format soon.

Breakable glass and barricades: seasonal or permanent?

Another ongoing debate among players is whether features like breakable glass and barricades are part of a new “Apex 2.0” update or simply seasonal additions. Current evidence suggests that these are seasonal features tied to specific events rather than part of a full sequel or engine overhaul.

What to expect

For now, there is no solid proof that Apex Legends 2.0 exists in development. What seems far more likely is that Respawn is continuing to enhance the current version of Apex Legends with better systems, audio fidelity, and occasional experimental PvE content. The studio has made clear that rebuilding the game from scratch would divert resources from live service updates, so any future evolution will likely happen within the same framework players already know.
