Counter-Strike competition resumes immediately following the IEM Cologne Major, with the XSE Pro League Guangzhou 2026 commencing today. Operating during the official player break means several of the world’s highest-ranked rosters are absent, opening the door for participating organizations to secure an early advantage in the Valve Ranking System (VRS) standings.
For teams like FaZe, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and BIG, the tournament serves as a testing ground to refine their tactical approaches and collect VRS points ahead of the second phase of the 2026 season.
The post-Major reality
The 16-team tournament features a mix of regional contenders and established names seeking stability. BetBoom and 9z arrive in China with high expectations after both reached the quarter-finals at the recent IEM Cologne Major. The two squads will look to maintain their momentum and establish themselves as tournament favorites.
FaZe, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and BIG are facing a different scenario. These organizations are utilizing the event to build on their current projects and integrate adjustments without the immediate pressure of a Major championship. A deep run in Guangzhou provides a direct path to climbing the global rankings. For FaZe this will be the first chance to see their new AWP’er Jason “JBOEN” Boe Nielsen in action. The Dane has been loaned from BIG for the rest of the season.
