The final bracket for the IEM Cologne Major 2026 is locked, setting the stage for the concluding matches of the year’s most prestigious tournament. Following a competitive third stage, the playoff simulations point toward historic milestones and intense regional rivalries.
Reviewing the outcomes of stage 3
The previous stage demonstrated that clear favorites can struggle under pressure. While 9z pushed Team Spirit to their limits and secured a victory over Team Vitality, the bracket ultimately stabilized. The selections for Stage 3 yielded strong results, correctly predicting Spirit for the 3-0 advancement and PARIVISION for the 0-3 exit. With safe passages secured for BetBoom, Natus Vincere, and Team Falcons before the final day, the focus shifts to the single-elimination bracket in the Lanxess Arena.
The matchups
Spirit vs G2
Vitality vs Falcons
9z vs FURIA
Aurora vs BetBoom
Spirit looks to dominate G2
I had written a whole segment about Spirit facing G2 in the Quarter-Finals, but then G2 went ahead and eliminated NAVI from the tournament. The tenacity that they showed will come in handy against Team Spirit, but I have to admit that I see no chance for G2 to overcome Spirit here. Danil “donk” Kryshkovets has been amazing in Cologne, and he alone can deliver the difference for Spirit.
Vitality faces its kryptonite against Falcons
Team Falcons has proven to be a direct counter to Vitality, securing victories in their last three head-to-head encounters. Vitality has shown uncharacteristic vulnerability in Cologne, dropping four maps during Stage 3, including two defeats on Dust2. Conversely, Falcons has looked comfortable on Dust2, defeating G2 and NAVI, while maintaining a permanent ban on Overpass to solidify their tactical veto.
Despite these unfavorable statistics, Vitality remains the pick to advance. The roster is motivated by the opportunity to secure a third consecutive Major trophy and equalize the historic record held by Astralis.
South American rivals clash as FURIA meets 9z
FURIA and 9z meet in a rare international derby. Despite representing the same regional scene, these teams have not faced each other since the Shanghai Major in 2024. Both lineups favor Overpass and Inferno, but FURIA possesses a strategic advantage with ample material to counter the setups 9z utilized against Vitality and Spirit. With Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo competing in his final Cologne event, FURIA is expected to manage the pressure of the Lanxess Arena stage and progress.
Aurora and BetBoom battle for a semi-final spot
Aurora enters the quarter-finals after a strong showing in the tournament, which included taking a map from Team Spirit. Their opponents, BetBoom, fought through from Stage 1, only suffering defeats against tournament heavyweights Spirit, FURIA, and Vitality. Although Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov attempting another deep Major run provides a compelling narrative, Aurora has demonstrated higher tactical consistency throughout this event and gets the nod to edge out a victory.
The semi-finals and the road to the grand final
The projected semi-final between Spirit and Vitality favors the French organization. Historically, Vitality holds a six-match winning streak over Spirit. Passing the Falcons hurdle would signal that Vitality has recaptured the form that placed them at the top of the world rankings across 2025 and 2026.
On the other side of the bracket, Aurora faces FURIA. While Aurora previously defeated FURIA 2-0 at BLAST Rotterdam, the stakes of a Major semi-final alter the dynamic. FURIA is predicted to break their recent trend of quarter-final exits to reach the grand final in FalleN’s final career appearance in Germany.
The predicted grand final places Vitality against FURIA. Vitality has controlled the matchup in 2026, winning both encounters between the sides. Benefiting from a challenging upper bracket run, Vitality is poised to defeat FURIA, claim the IEM Cologne Major title, and match the record of four Major championships in Counter-Strike history.
