FlyQuest embarrass Liquid to clinch Stage 2 spot

Liquid have been eliminated from the IEM Cologne Major in 22nd-24th place.

Liquid have been eliminated from the IEM Cologne Major in 22nd-24th place.

Team Liquid are one of the most storied names in Counter-Strike history. Intel Grand Slam winners and once Major finalists, they had a chance to make it to the top 16 of the Major once again.

Now, they have been relegated to not being able to qualify for the Major if not for a loophole, and losing full eco rounds against FlyQuest, a team they have never lost to in their history.

FlyQuest win their first match against Liquid under high pressure

FlyQuest have made it to the top 16 at the IEM Cologne Major by defeating SINNERS, THUNDER dOWNUNDER and Team Liquid. In their last match, they only allowed Liquid nine rounds in total.

Prior to this crucial match, FlyQuest had never been able to defeat Team Liquid.

Stomp on Anubis

FlyQuest’s pick was triumphant from start to finish as they kept Liquid to only two rounds. Even when Liquid had the man advantage, FlyQuest closed out time after time through strong teamwork.

Vexite said he felt a difference in the team while getting through Stage 1.

It feels like we’re here to play, like we’re here to compete.

Teamwork was missing today for Liquid, in addition to individual misfires. Their AWPer, ultimate managed only two kills in all of Anubis – a single one per half.

EliGE trying to keep a dour Liquid alive on Inferno

As usual with Liquid, only one player can perform at the same time, and this time it was EliGE.

FlyQuest had their way with Liquid once again, with Vexite the star of the show. When Liquid could have mounted a late comeback, they lost a full eco round against Glocks and a single Deagle.

EliGE won a 1v2 to allow Liquid a comeback, but that was enough for only seven rounds.

Player of the match: Vexite

With bombastic trashtalk and fragging, Vexite outplayed every Liquid player individually over the course of this series, especially on Anubis.

INS would be an honorable mention, putting up the best rating on the server while IGL’ing.

EliGE: “Everyone has a question mark next to their name [on Liquid]”

There wasn’t as much trust during the game.

EliGE said that losing 2-13 rattled the team, giving a sense of dread, and a lack of belief.

He mentioned roster changes that might occur at Liquid.

Everyone can be changed, including myself. Everything we tried hasn’t worked.
