zonic defends karrigan impact following Falcons playoff qualification: “Definitely something that we needed”

Falcons have secured a spot in the playoffs at the IEM Cologne Major 2026. Following victories over G2 Esports, Monte, and Natus Vincere, the roster advanced to the bracket stage. Speaking on media day ahead of the quarterfinal against Team Vitality, Falcons head coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen addressed the integration of in-game leader Finn “karrigan” Andersen and countered community criticism regarding the veteran’s individual statistics.

“He boost the team”

The addition of karrigan to the Falcons roster brought immediate tactical adjustments, particularly surrounding the team’s offensive setups. While external analysis often centers on individual performance metrics, zonic emphasized the structural clarity the veteran caller brings to the server.

Very good and definitely something that we needed,” zonic said when evaluating karrigan’s start with the team. “He is very active, microing the players, having good overviews. Against NAVI he had some really strong reads, good calls, but he is also going first.

The Danish coach noted that karrigan’s willingness to create space on the map often comes at the expense of his personal scoreboard presentation.

He boosts the team and sometimes that cost on his own account,” zonic stated. “He might not deliver that good when it comes to statistics, but you see what TeSeS did against NAVI. Karrigan also has an impact in there.

Impact on and outside the server

Beyond tactical implementation, the Falcons coach highlighted karrigan’s role in stabilizing team chemistry during high-pressure matches. His presence has altered the internal dynamic, particularly for the less experienced members of the squad.

His mood outside of the server as well, he has had a huge impact on a guy like kyousuke who is a player where he needs a little bit of a good mood,” zonic said. “He is still very young, he needs someone, and karrigan has come in, twice the age, and he is just coming in being this big brother, father maybe.

According to zonic, maintaining an optimal team environment during official matches remains an essential factor for the current roster progression.

He is just enlightening the practice room, making things fun even in the crazy games,” zonic added. “He is cheering up Maksim.
