Speaking to NatTea, voo and Mauisnake after winning BLAST Open Porto, zont1x admitted to being the secondary caller on Spirit and spoke about his desired legacy.
Myroslav ‘zont1x’ Plakhotia spoke on the BLAST Open Porto desk after winning the title in a packed arena in Lisbon, Portugal. He opened up and addressed many topics around Spirit and his career.
Alex ‘Mauisnake’ Ellenberg asked zont1x how he wants his legacy to be defined, comparing himself to Robin ‘ropz’ Kool.
Kind of ropz-style. You have a big impact but no one really talks much about you, unless you are literally winning two years straight.
He said he saw himself as a supporting member of his team.
With my game intelligence, I would not be able to be a top 1 player, maybe I would not even hit the top 20. I think I’m doing my impact by some other things, even though I’m not the best mechanically.
Becoming the secondary caller after S0tF1k
Asked if he is the secondary caller by Mauisnake, zont1x said he “obviously” was.
I had never called as much as I call right now, so I’m a strong second voice.
He clarified that it was interim coach, Dmitriy “S0tF1k” Forostyanko’s, impact that led to this, and the departure of former captain, Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov.
The team functions a little bit different from what we had a year ago with Chopper, before S0tF1K. We have a lot of freedom, more freedom than we had before as players.
About being a body-shotter
Donald ‘voo’ Parkhurst asked zont1x about why he goes for so many body shots.
I still think aiming for the body, especially in my role, is the better way. Obviously if I had ability to shoot like kyousuke, for example, I probably wouldn’t be doing that. But I understand I can’t just be the best player mechanically. And I think I’m able to have impact with this style of aiming.
Being the best team but “relative” after month-long break
After defeating MOUZ 3-1 in the grand final of the BLAST Bounty, Spirit’s second big trophy of the season after the Esports World Cup in Paris, zont1x said Spirit was the best team.
However, he added that they will take a month-long break, which could shake things up.
Next tournament we play will be [ESL Pro League] a month later, so it will be a whole another story. I think in October the status of the best team will be very much relative.
